Scottish castle
When I was in Scotland, I visited a castle near Oban, and I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of it. I think it starts with the letter D. Now, I know there are two castles near Oban that both start with D. This would be the one that is about two miles away from town. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Sheila? Tony? Can you help me? This information is essential for the proper labeling of my photographs! Thanks!!

Meridith,

Check out http://www.oban-org.co.uk/tourism.htm and http://www.castles.org/Chatelaine/.

According to these website, I believe the two castles you mention are Dunstaffnage (5 mi north of Oban) and Dunollie (northern outskirts of Oban).

If you visit the websites you should be able to find some photos that will help you identify which castle you're interested in.

Meredith, Dunollie Castle is more a ruin than a castle(now), no fees to see it, with a beautiful view of Oban. Dunstaffnage Castle is a Historic Scotland site (with an entry fee) ,as Dave mentioned ,5 km outside of Oban. Oban was one of my favorite places on our trip to Scotland and some of my best pictures were at Dunstaffnage. Our trip was just last summer but it is amazing how quickly one can forget names that a short while ago were on the tip of your tongue! Hope you had a great trip!
