Any dedicated undercover team will find much to complain of with any airline. Just read Flyertalk for complaint stories on every airline every day of the week. Of course Ryanair is obnoxious sometimes, in some respects, but I was happy for the option when I took them.

People pay to get from A to B. While I agree that Ryanair as a budget airline does not need to provide any extras in providing this transport service, leaving passengers stranded for 2 to 4 days with no compensation is hardly acceptable.

Ryanair does say to buy travel insurance to cover yourself against this eventuality. It's just a matter of who's going to bear the cost when things go wrong. And people can get stranded with major airlines too (which recently happened to a friend of a friend in the latest eastern snowstorm).

I'm not surprised. I decided to avoid Ryanair after reading comments by their founder, who is indeed aggressively anti-customer, & a newspaper article comparing levels of customer service by different airlines when things go wrong. If things go wrong with Ryanair you are totally on your own - if a flight is cancelled, or you miss a connection & it's their fault - tough. Buy a new flight. A normal airline will book you on another flight and if necessary put you up in a hotel. I'm not prepared to risk it, especially since flying from Scotland to anywhere nearly always involves 2 flights.
