Russian Tours

Want to go to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Any names of any good tour companies? Is it safe to go there (will be going single) in a tour.

You might check out Go Ahead Tours. I have a friend who travels with them each year and thinks they do a great job. I usually travel with students and choose a company more geared toward them.

We are going on a group tour to Moscow and St. Petersburg in summer '08 with EF tours. (not sure of exact dates, small group). This company does educational tours, usually where a teacher takes a group of students. This tour will be NO students. It is being set up by my wife's co-worker (now retired) who has taken many groups overseas using this company.
It will be all adults. We are looking for a few more people to fill out our group.
The company has a website. EFtours.com We have based our decision on wife's friend's experience with them. I am not sure how you would hook up with them, to be included in a tour if you don't have a group, but maybe they look for a few people to fill out groups that they have scheduled.
We are based in Atlanta. My wife is a school psychologist and I am a dentist, both age 51.

Thanks for the info. I'm 57, live in Las Vegas, and am a nurse. I'll check out that website.

I just looked. I think the Go Ahead Tours, mentioned in the first post...is a division of EF tours.

Correct. Go Ahead Tours runs similar tours, just geared for adults. EF Educational Tours is more geared toward students traveling with their teachers. This means faster paced, less free time (more structured schedule).

EF does take independent travelers. You just need to tell them when you are looking to travel and where and they can try to match you up with a group traveling during that time. With Go Ahead tours, they have set departure dates, so you just need to pick from a date already established in advance and you would just travel with otherrs that have picked that date.

For rooming, you can opt to pay for a single room upfront to guarantee it if you wish, or you would just room in a twin room with another "solo" traveler in your bus group.

If I were you I would avoid EF tours like the plague. They are well known for lousy accomodations and very bad meal plans. Also expect your itnerary to be changed at the last moment whether you want it to or not.
F- in my book.
