Rome @ Nite

Has anyone taken the Rome @ Night tours ... dinner and a bus/shuttle tour of the monuments at night??? We are wondering if the dinner tour is worth the extra $25. Please advise of personal experiences. We realize each person has their own "values". But we would like to hear from you....

Lee
[email protected]

I took one of the non-dinner tours and highly recommend it. Rome looks gorgeous illuminated. I have a feeling that you can have a much better $25 dinner than is offered on the tour.

I was going to give the exact same response that Carol gave. We did one of the non-dinner tours and really enjoyed it. Did not do a dinner version because we felt confident we could do better ourselves.

Unlike the others above, we were disappointed with our night tour of Rome last May. The year before, we went on the Paris @ Night tour and loved it. Seeing Rome illuminated sounded really wonderful as well, so we saved this tour for our last night there (thinking it would be a lovely final look at a lovely city.)

But we had a few problems: to begin with, it wasn't fully dark out when we started off so we missed the fully illuminated effect at the early sights (Trevi Fountain in particular.) Also disappointing was the fact that except for Trevi Fountain and final stop on the hill overlooking the city, our bus never stopped - in fact, it never really slowed down. Too bad because The Colliseum is spectacular at night (or so we thought so as we whizzed by!) Finally, it took forever to drop all passengers off at their hotels. Sadly, we were last on the list, arriving back after 11 p.m. thus ruining our plan for a final special dinner in Rome. Oh well... Perhaps with a different schedule, you can avoid all these headaches!

Renee,

No, I'm sorry I don't recall which tour company we used. It was just one of those that displayed literature at our hotel.
