Rome: Advice Needed

Hi--I'm arriving in Rome early on New Year's Day and meeting up with other folks in the late afternoon. Any suggestions for where to park my suitcase while I explore? Also, any hints on transportation from the airport, or ideas for what to do solo for a few hours? I've heard everything's closed on Jan. 01. It's my first time in Rome. TIA,

CharlotteSophia

At your hotel. Where are you staying?

The Leonardo Express is one of the better options for solo transit from FCO to the city (Termini train station).

Best wishes,

Rex

Thanks for your reply, Rex. The problem is that I'm not staying at a hotel...renting an apartment for a week, but can't get into it until late afternoon. Arriving Rome in AM. Are there lockers at the train station?

thnx.

There are lockers at the train station, but I read there are significant wait times both storing and retrieving.

I'd consider booking a hostel near the train station for one night for 20 Euros and storing my luggage there. There's no need to indicate you are anything other than a routine guest. Just make sure you get a hostel without a lockout period that stores luggage.

As for what to do while solo, definitely walk around. So many things to see!

Have you contacted your agency/landlord to let them know about your arrival time? Perhaps they would let you have an earlier check-in to put your bags down and get settled a little before you go out on your first excursion. Worth a try.
