I need help again please! We decided we will buy tickets on line for the colloseum Where I'm buying them shows that it is free for children. How true is this? can anybody help? I donot want to get tickets and then have my son be turned away. He is 10 yrs old. I was in Rome once but nothing useful for our trip can I remember. And we did not travel with a child then. Thanks

Sometimes they are only free if you live in the EU.

We went 2 years ago and in Italy a lot of tourist/cultural sites are free to children under 18 if they posess an EU passport.
We did not pre buy any tickets in June and had no trouble getting in and no wait. I had found a tip on this website to go to Palatine Hill first and buy the tickets there - one ticket gets you entrance to both the Coliseum and Palatine Hill.
I am unable to find the admission fees to these sites right now, but I have seen an Odyssey Tour which says that children under 10 are free on their tour but that there is an admission charge to the Coliseum for kids. Perhaps that is what you are looking at.

Just in case...I am not an EU national. I am an american from California. We visited the Coloseum last March (2008)...about a month or so ago. We skipped the lines and went directly to the last ticket window to get the free ticket for my 9 year old daughter...so she can go through the turnsile. My son (11 years old), my wife and I just used our ROMA Pass for the turnstile.
