Roma Pass
My daughter and I will be leaving for Italy in just over a week; we are so excited! We would like to take advantage of the Roma Pass for museums and transportation. By waiting to purchase these until we get to Rome (by train from Florence), will we be able to obtain reservations for Borghese Gallery in 1-2 days? Can these reservations be made when we purchase the passes? Grazie!

Ask your Rome hotel to make your reservation NOW for the Galleria Borghese. You don't pay for entry (or use the pass) until you arrive at the museum. Get there at least 15-20 minutes before your reservation time because you are required to check all coats, bags, umbrellas.

You can also make these reservations for the Borghese (which I agree is extremely great to visit) by visiting www.ticketeria.it .

Yes - you can definitely make a reservation without purchasing the tickets - we did this in November. We reserved over the internet - using the link that WT noted and then when we showed up at the Borghese - you actually purchase the tickets and can use the Roma Pass for the discount. I also recommend getting there a bit early as WT does. It takes some time to get the tickets and get your thing situated.

I too will be in Rome in about 10 days. I assumed this would be dead/slow time because the holiday period would be over. Does this mean if I want to go to the Borghese I really need to pick a time now and reserve? Or, are all of you referring to what it is like during peak periods of tourism?

The Borghese has a limited number of spaces, and you get two hours to see everything (actually it's less once you go through the admission procedure). I don't think anyone can tell you for sure that you will fail, but most cases I've read on this board have resulted in failure if people try to get in on the same day.

It's easier to reserve in advance but not really necessary at this time of year. Be aware if you don't have a reservation you still have to wait for the timed entry every 2 hours. If you arrive at 2pm you still have to wait until the next entry ...3pm and if there's space you're allowed in.

Given that there is no cost to missing your reservation, if booked through the above site, you would not have to feel absolutely bound to attend. I would not encourage being profligate with reservations, of course, because it might mean someone else misses out.
