New and simple bookmarking process:

Open thread. Click "Bookmarks" (Mac) or whatever Windows uses these days. Click "add bookmark." Select a folder. Done. No need to post.

Thanks Fra_Diavolo but that process of bookmarking within the browser is decades old.

It is simple but it's not new.

I agree that closing threads after two years is not sensible and a disservice to those interested in the topic. It's one of the things I dislike about TA. Two years is not a long time in trip preparation especially for some of us planning trips to less traveled destinations.

And that the final message says that the topic is closed because 1) it violated Fodor's rules or 2) there were no posts for two years is misleading. Many will be left with the impression that the threat is tainted by a rules violation.

I just looked at a thread that was a first post by a newbie and his poor thread was closed within 7 hours. I had looked at it earlier in the day and didn't have time to comment and when I opened it again the thread had been closed.

This was not a very good welcome to a new member.

Closing travel threads after two years simply insures that everything will be two years old. It's absurd.

I've seen so much worse on this board than what was said on Tbone's thread. Are people just walking up to the sarcasm here?

And she was not a new member; she registered in 2006.

For kybourbon -- yes, inactive threads are closed at TA. However, TA has a feature where you can contact a forum member by private message -- not a message over anyone's e-mail server. So if someone has a specific question, s/he can contact a poster at any time.

I took some pleasure in writing about 30,000 words about Venice. I'd like to think that some people tok pleasure in reading it - I can't be sure. But that's the blogo-sphere.

And for the record, I enjoy Bob the Navigator's posts. I had to search pretty hard to find the commercial organisation that he is said to be connected to.

The in bowser feature didn't work on Fodor's until the last format change. That's why people keep posting "bookmark" on threads.

I agree with all of the above users about all postings being disabled from reples/new posts after two years. I wish this was not done. That is what has made this site so useful to so many of us. Also, I think that some of the posters can be very rude and caustic to new posters seeking ideas or help in travel. How many of us are so perfect that we have never made a mistake? This is one site that I have to say that I access each and every day. There are so many valuable contributors whose opinion I regard very highly. Thanks to them! You make my travels better. It more likely means that you can't go around slamming their posts just because you don't like their advice. Their opinions are just as valuable as yours and hundreds of posters have come back from their trips and thanked Stu, Bob and others.

swandav2000 - Sending a PM on TA does not let everyone on the closed thread see my question, nor does it let anyone new see it. When you take the travel info off the board and private, it benefits only one person. When it is posted on the board, it benefits thousands (and Fodor's).

Closing threads after two years is a disservice. I frequently refer to old threads when planning my trips but have found it to be much more difficult since the latest change in the format. Just because we don't ask a question doesn't mean that we are not looking at it. Does this mean that to keep it current I'll have to post a reply?

After reviewing your comments, we see the value in keeping older threads open for comments and discussion. We are reversing the closures and all old threads will be reopened for comment shortly.
