Reservation: TGV

Can I make a reservation for TGV and Swiss scenic trains in London? If so, that would be 6 days before departure. Is that too late?

Or can anyone make recommendation for reserving a seat other than raileurope.com?

Thank you in advance.

Hi T,

From whence are you departing and where are you going?

Not possible to make any Continental train reservations at any British station and you'll have to go thru RailEurope in London (Piccadilly Street just west of the Circus) and they'll charge similar RE US fees but of course no mailing fee since it's a walk up service. Only place in Britain to my knowledge you can do this. Closes daily around 5pm closed on Sun. Scenic Swiss trains same - only at RE in UK, except of course i might add private travel agencies make them, but through RailEurope. Not sure how Ffestiniog Travel and trainsurope, two UK rail booking agenices work but suspect they work thru RailEurope in London. Six days would not be too late for most TGV trains which often can be made up to time of departure. Paris-nice trains are most problematic and on certain days. Glacier Express also popular but other scenic Swiss trains can usually make up until time of train in my experience. I guess you don't want to go thru RailEurope.com for their handling fee and higher ($11) seat reservations on TGV and Swiss trains. If it's some other reason try Budget Europe who i always recommend - though a RailEurope agent they are so knowledgeable and don't have some of RE's fees (800-441-2387) - their free European Planning & Rail guide has a lot of info on Scenic Swiss trains as well as booking info. I think you can book Scenic Swiss trains on web sites for the railroads involved (GlacierExpress site, etc.) Anyways if any questions i'd call Budget Europe

I'll be arriving at London on 9/4 and leave to Paris on 9/6.
Then I plan to go to Zurich on 9/10.

I suppose I can reserve a seat on 9/6 for the 9/10 travel. But I'm wondering if it's too close to travel day.

Since you are fairly new here - - how do I know that? click on your own name - - a valuable tip that Fodors fails to give you, when they send you that initial e-mail confirming your registration...

...anyhow, bringing this message back up "to the top" since Intrepid1 refers to this reply on another of your message "threads"...

Welcome to the forum.

Best wishes,

Rex
