Renting a car in Assisi?

We were also afraid of driving in Rome, so we picked up our rental car at the Rome airport - which is outside of the city. From there, it was very easy to get to Umbria. We visited Assisi, and there is a larger town outside of it that may have a car rental.

You can rent a car In Perugia - it is the stop before Assisi on the train from Rome - car hire is just outside the station on your left.
Assisi has a good public bus system and a taxi service for the few places the bus doesn't go to - why do you want to hire a car?
Helen Donegan,
[email protected]
the free monthly ezine for lovers of Italy.

There doesn't seem to be anything at the website www.italywithus.com except for mis-spelled "subheading" - - (sic) - - <<the e-zine of lover's of Italy>> and a solicitation to leave one's e-mail address with no indication of what will be sent out.

If you are promoting your commercial website here, Helen, it's againt the poicies of Fodors.com - - but who can tell? Even if this is a NON-commercial site, I don't think you are going to get many takers who will give over their e-mail addresses, sight unseen with respect to what your "e-zine" will contain (or does it not yet exist?)

Of course you can "harvest" the e-mail address for myself (and others who leave them here) from this (and other) posting(s).

Try that.

See what friends and happy subscribers you make that way! (just kidding)

And as for Lynda's original question, I did not rent IN Assisi for our last trip there, but I have twice had a car there, and it is not such a problem as others might suggest. In fact, if you go to Assis, consider staying at the Hotel Fontabella - - INside the walls of Assisi, and park the car 50 feet from the front door.

Best wishes,

Rex
Thank you for your advice Rex - actually I live 20 minutes from Assisi and adore the place, I enjoy helping others to get the best from it.
I was asking why this lady wanted to hire a car in Assisi - if it is to visit other places in Umbria it is one thing, if it is to see Assisi there is no need.
All hotels in Assisi can give you a free pass for parking near or not so near their hotel - it is not difficult.
You seem such a nice person - the spirit of St Francis must have really got to you.
We are leaving from Assisi to visit Sienna, Lucca, Cinque Terre and from there on to Innsbruck. We didn't need the car for Assisi, just didn't want to drive in Rome. However, we have rented a car at the main train station in Rome with assurance that it is easy to get out of town! Hope so.
