Renfe Meltdown
I have posted messages regarding Renfe vs. Rail Europe but started this new message as I was afraid I have lost everyone.
So, here is my saga. I went through all the proper steps to get a ticket from Seville to Madrid and even selected my seats. After that, I went to the next page and this message came up:
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS WEBSITE'S SECURITY CERTIFICATE
The security certificate presented by this website has expired or is not yet valid.
Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.
We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.
Does anyone have a clue what is going on? Is this messge coming from my bank?
I do not even know if I purchased the tickets because this message come next and I never got a confirmation number, etc.

I wish I could help. I had to give up on Renfe. I do not know what to do. My friend, a travel agent tried to help me and she thinks I need to wait till I get to Spain. My bank called me to say fees were requested by Renfe but they never went through. I am lost!

The message is a stock Windows one: not from your Bank or Financial Institution. It's telling you that anything you enter, like your Credit Card Number is not protected as it would be if you had an 'https' screen.
I agree with your Travel Agent. If you buy your ticket too far in advance, you're stuck with it. You miss the train and your ticket & reservation are worthless.
AVE Sevilla-Madrid operates hourly during the day and only under very extraordinary circumstances would you have to wait for the next train. I did that once; it was because of my lack of mobility. I use a walking stick and move very slowly.

I had to "register" my credit card with my bank and then post that security to Renfe to be able to use it. Took a week to figure it all out.
It was a night mare. ( And I have SPANISH BANK CARD)
However, on the phone it is a breeze.You can get all fares but the webfare.. so don't despair.. try a quick phone call to their international line. You can still save 40%.if the Estrella fare is available.

I hope Renfe is not indicative of how everything works in Spain. Better get myself a bottle of cava to keep in my backpack to stay "chill."

Like linca, I too had to register my CC for these type of transactions, but that might not be your issue. Check to make sure your computer has the right date. You might have used your computer calendar for trip dates, and your computer set that as an actual date. So now your computer thinks a sec cert of today is in the past.

SUCCESS!!!!!!Frank S you were right---I had the wrong date on my computer and that was a big part of the problem. I was able to do verification with my bank online and did not have to call. I am using a Chase credit card. So, I have Seville to Madrid tickets and am waiting for the Madrid to Granada tickets to be posted.
