Red Light District
Hello,
I am going to be in Amsterdam in March 28, 29, 30. I am a single female in her 30's (I look younger).
I want to check out the red light District . Would I be ok if I went alone? Or do you think I should go with a tour? Day/Night?
Thanks!

You will be safe, especially during the day, but why do you want to? I can vaguely see the attraction for young males, but why would a woman want to go an view other women who have been trafficked, tricked and abused?
DO remember that the 30th is Koninginnedag and the investing of the new King so Amsterdam will be packed and public transport will be severely limited.

There are several important churches and museums located there. Yes you'll notice the women/girls standing in their windows but unless you try to photograph them or something it shouldn't be an issue. Walk around the area, visit the 'sites' just as you would the rest of the city. The old church, the museum in the attic, etc. are very worthwhile so I wouldn't miss them. The area in general is more run down then the area on the other side of the city though so I'd spend most of my wandering time in other areas. But during the daytime at least it is perfectly safe.

I think the church in the attic is well worth a visit and to see that, you have to go thru the red light district. I'd go in the daytime just because I wouldn't want to be in the middle of that throng at night, not so much for saftey issues as just general comfort level.

Take the train to Haarlem, then a bus to Lisse or Keukenhof from the busstation should do it. You can also join a tourbus.
But please be aware that that April 30 will be pretty crazy, especially getting into and out of Amsterdam.

You could also train to Leiden and visit the Molenmuseum on your way to the Kuekenhof garden

Visit the RLD early in the morning, you wont feel like a sailor on leave while admiring the architecture and the canals
