Quick Renfe Question Re: MCHAMARTIN

For Granada to Madrid, the site gives "MCHAMARTIN" as the Madrid station. Is this a stop within Madrid? Am having difficulty clarifying this.

Thanks!

Chamartin is one of two main stations in Madrid, along with Atocha, which is in the town center whilst Chamartin is several miles out in the suburbs - trains run constantly between the two stations. I thought trains to Granada went from Atocha station???

The Talgo to Granada does leave from Atocha, but it originates at Chamartin 15 minutes earlier.

Yes the German rail website, which has schedules for all of Europe gives Atocha at the starting point for trains to Granada and not Chamartin. The German site is the best i've seen for scheduling info - a quick way to access its English schedule page where you just put in the date and Madrid to Granada is to go to the home page of www.budgeteuropetravel.com and at the bottom click on the link "All european railway schedules" and instantly pops up the German site's English schedule page. The home page referenced also gives several tips on how to use the superb German site and how to access the multitude of info it has on each train. www.renfe.es has pricing but in my experience i always use the German site for just schedules and train info.

I'm traveling from Granada to Madrid, and the only option Renfe is giving is the Chamartin station.

When using dbahn.de, the site says the 8:00 a.m. train arrives at Atocha.

The Talgo DOES arrive at Chamartin. The trips which arrive at Atocha usually involve a CHANGE of trains somewhere along the way such as in Seville.

Indeed the bahn site says all trains i looked at to Granada originate at Atocha and from Chamartin you change at Atocha for the Altaria trains to Granada. Altaria trains are not Talgo trains and maybe can't run from Chamartin for some reason. But my current Thomas Cook Timetable says Talgo trains run from Chamartin via Atocha to Granada.
I wonder if recently Altaria trains haven't replaced Talgo trains on this run and for some reason can't serve Chamartin. Tried to check renfe site but wouldn't pop up. I guess i'd take the renfe site as the last word.
I know in the past the German site is great for most countries but somewhat spotty for Spain for some reason.

Chamartin is not way out of the city, either..it has its own Metro stop, too.

Thank you all for the responses. Hopefully, waiting to buy the ticket there is okay. Thought it would be quick purchase online, but don't want to buy the wrong tickets.

Guess it's just last-minute fussing to finalize as many logistical issues as possible. Saturday is departure day and I couldn't be more excited (well, I could, but co-workers would have to duct tape me to the desk chair).

Thanks, again! (And, will report on the answer post-trip.)
