please recommend hotels for the area. Also what are the interesting sights of the city. How many days should I stay in the city to see it all? Thank you for your recommendations.

We stayed at the Pension Balbin on Balbinova. We got the pension from AVE Accommodations in Prague. It is wonderful. You are 5 minutes from just about anywhere. The rooms are clean, have shower & toilet in them. The workers speak English. You have a serve yourself breakfast & all for less that $35 for a room (2 people). I recommend it highly. It is near the Museum station on the Metro, just up from Wencheslas Square. AVE used to have a web site. I don't know if it moved or they quit using it.

Just returned from Prague where I spent 10 days with a group of architecture students. If you are travelling alone I would not stay in the area of Wenceslas Square. The square, really a long street of shops, is besieged in the evenings with prostitutes and youngsters who seem to be looking for trouble. You will probably pay more, but might be happier in the area of the Old Town Square. How long to stay? What are you looking for? History, art, buildings or music. There is plenty of all of that. Pick up a copy of the Prague Post, a weekly written in English. We used it as a guide for music as well as restaurants and NEVER went wrong. Food is incredibly cheap.
Good Luck...and watch your belongings. Despite all the warnings from others and my own care, 10 seconds away from my camera, in the post office, resulted in it being lifted! I mean be really careful and beware of money changers in the streets...use banks or AmEx.

Hi, my wife and I spent about five days in Prague last summer and we had a fantastic time. We stayed at the Hotel Sax, in Mala Strana for about $100(u.s) including a buffet breakfast. The hotel was beautiful and spotless and Mala Strana is a safe, clean and great part of Prague, and is within walking distance to both the new and old town square. The hotel is about a 2 minute walk to the U.S. embassy and lots of great sores and restaurants. Spend the money on accomadtion because everything else is really cheap. On my last trip to Prague we stayed on the MalaStrana side of the city. It is easily accesible by Tram #24, which runs throughout the city. The hotel we stayed at was called Hotel Kampa. It was spotless and very quiet, (located on peaceful cobblestone back street) The management was extremely friendly and helpful to us. I found the hotel through Fodors. If you go to the home page and click on hotels for Prague, you can find a decription and phone number. The hotel is a great bargain too. Less than $75 U.S. a night. Have a great time. Thank you for your advice. How many days should I stay to "see the sights" or at least the most important ones?

One day for the castle and Mala Strana. One day for the Jewish district and Old Town. One day to see other areas of the city, such as Vysyrhad (not sure of the spelling) and Nove Mesto. Of course if you have more time you can always get to know a place better. With fairly aggressive touring, I was able to tour all of these areas (except parts of Nove Mesto) in two days. You may want more time for shopping - terrific crystal and puppets.
