Hi MC, Please tell me when you’ll be in Saint Remy. I will be staying at Les Sources in mid May and could provide you information when I return. I’m also waiting to hear from my friend Beth who stayed there just over a week ago. The place looks very nice from their web site (www.sources-saint-remy.com) and with very good prices (I was quoted 45 Euros/night for a room with a full size bed, twin bed, and small kitchenette. The room also has a patio, which I’m looking forward to enjoying the outdoors writing in my journal or writing my postcards while sipping on some wine! Philippe, the owner, has been very nice and helpful with some of my travel questions.

Thank you Monica for your reply.

I will travel in July but I can't decide between those two accomodations and "Jardins de Fontanille" (found on Gaf site).
But I think I will follow your recommendation and asked "Philippe" for a quote.

In the meantime, if you have any more inpute, I would appreciate.

By the way, I found a trip report from your friend Beth (she didn't mentionned Les Sources, but I think it was the part #1 of her report, posted yesterday ) :
"Strolling in the Tuileries, horseback riding in the Alpilles, dodging scooters on the Riviera..."

We have stayed at L'Amandiere each year for the last 8 years with one exception.

It is a small hotel, rooms are tiny. It has a lovely garden about it and a pool in the back. It serves only breakfast. Cost is modest.

You can walk in to St. Remy for shopping, dinner, etc. It is about a half mile walk. It is great base in late June, early July for exploring lavender country up in the mountains at the Abbey Senanque, etc.

The proprietors, Christophe and Claudine, are personal friends. They are most accommodating.

It is a two floor hotel. On the second floor are little baconies with pleasant views of the countryside.

There are more elegant hotels, e.g. Chateau des Alpilles. L'Amandiere first just met our budgetary level and then turned out to be a gem. Remember, though, the rooms are tiny.

You are welcome to e-mail me for more information.

MC, Tell Philippe I sent you. As I said, he's very nice. I even asked him if he supplied hair dryers in the rooms (no). He told me he would have one available for me, which is great. Now I can leave mine at home and have a tiny bit more space for that extra souvineer! Have you seen his web site yet? Email me directly after May 24th and I can give you a report on the place.

MC, Information on Les Sources from my friend: “I think you will like this place - very nice. Cheerful rooms, in Provencal colors. The room you will stay in (from your picture) is being worked on right now - it's part of the main house - and thus will be brand new, although it all looks like it was completely redone recently – all new tiles, bathroom, etc etc. very cute. I stayed in the outbuildings - maybe 20 feet from the main house. It's a long row of I think 8 rooms (6?) and they are pretty standard - queen size bed, big but not HUGE (I think maybe 12 by 12? hard to tell) with a small table & 2 chairs (think cafe table) and two nightstands on either side. a white hanging wardrobe shelf unit - not a heavy armoire per se - more of a hanging unit, KIND OF like what you would see in a dry cleaning shop, if that makes sense? the shelf unit is attached to it - so there is space to hang things, shelves to put your stuff on, etc. the bathroom has a stand up shower, sink, toilet - standard. not huge by any means but quite large enough. it's maybe 10-15 minutes walk from town. it's also easy to find. you get into town (small - easy) and then when you see signs for the D5 turn right. follow signs for ZA La Gare.”

In reference to the room I'll be staying in (#7) it’s the room on the left with the patio – see photo on their main web site http://www.sources-saint-remy.com/
MC, I don't know how many are traveling with you, but I'm sure their standard rooms are just as nice as the studios, unless you need a larger room. Someone else on this board wrote to him for reservations, then decided they wanted a room with a/c, so Philippe suggested a nearby place. I'm sure he'll help you out.

I will be at Les Sources same time as Monica (many comment above). Host Philippe has set up a demonstration of the popular cafe game--boules. And we will go to dinner as a group. That kind of hositality makes Les Sources a desirable overnight no matter what. And the price is right for the economy-minded.
Tom

Going to be in St. Remy in July (g-d willing) and am staying at La Maison de Bournissac. Rudy Maxa wrote a lovely article about it and the food is supposed to be something quite special. We will see.

Just back from France, and had a peek at Les Sources. It's just what it says it is, a simple, economical place to stay. Although in a commercial area of St. Remy, the hotel is completely surrounded by a cedar hedge, so you'd never know it. If you're looking for a view, look elsewhere, otherwise it seems fine from my brief external inspection. Hope everyone enjoys their stay.

Dear Pam:

You will love La Maison. My husband I spent three nights there last month and loved every second of our stay. The rooms are gorgeous, the garden tranquil, the food amazing - just perfect!
