My girlfriend and I are staying in Paris for the last week (1-6 July 2013) of a 6 week trip around Europe. While in Paris I am planning an overnight trip to the Loire Valley to get lost in the history and beauty of the surrounding Chateaux. I'm planning to propose during this part of the trip and am looking for some help in finding the perfect place. A picnic in a flower covered field along a stream/river overlooking a Chateau with the birds singing and all of that sort of thing is what springs to mind. Or stay at a luxury chateau with beautiful grounds where we could take a walk and then have a long celebratory dinner afterward. I'm looking for a place to stay that would be special, so I'm willing to spend a bit (no more than 400-500 EUR/night). We'll have a car so we can go somewhere off the beaten path.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places to stay or perfect proposal ideas? Thanks in advance.

I love the Domain des Haut de Loire in Onzain, which is between Blois and Amboise. Excellent food and setting.A car would really improve your stay as it is easy to reach many chateaus from there
