Potential Itineraries for France: drive Paris to Lyon or Paris-Geneva-Lyon?
My husband has a work trip to the Lyon area next summer. We plan to fly into Paris, visit a few days, and then he will head to Lyon. I will probably stay an extra day or two in Paris and then take several days to travel to Lyon and meet up with him.
I am looking for itineraries. There is a potential I may be travelling by myself, but hopefully I will have 1 or 2 other wives with me. My initial travel ideas include:
1) rent car in Paris and take 2 or so days to drive through countryside to Lyon. Spend a day in Lyon, and hopefully a day trip (via train) to the Lake Geneva area.
What are the available routes? Ideas on what to see? I would like to enjoy the scenery (first time to France), enjoy some wine, take in the culture.
2) Train from Paris to Lake Geneva area and spend 2 or 3 days. Then take train to Lyon and spend a day there.
Hotel recs for Lake Geneva? Is it safe to drive from Paris? Or is the train a better option?
If there are other ideas for itineraries, I am all open! Thank you so much for your input. I am so excited about this trip.

Just my opinion, but if you want to see a beautiful lake in the foothills of the Alps, I would go to the scenic town of Annecy for a couple of days and forget about Geneva. Annecy is easily reached by train from Paris, and then you could take train on to Lyon.
