I just dropped an envelope full of postcards in the mail today ... hopefully, some will come in handy with your class. Your idea is so wonderful and I've suggested it to my mom to use with her class. She teaches junior high LD students who live in a very rural community and most haven't traveled more than an hour by car. They have had a difficult time learning about foreign places. Mom thanks you for such an inspiring idea!

Hi One,
Would you like a postcard of a Newfoundland dog w/ beautiful scenery in the background? - just returned from there in June. We will be going to Tuscany in mid Sept., but I think you said you had Italy covered, right? This is a fun idea for a classroom.

OneWandering Jew -

I have a postcard from Holland that I would be happy to add to your collection. I'll be e-mailing you this evening for your address.

I work for our local Children's Museum as the Exhibits Manager. Next years theme is Light & Color, and we are planning an exhibit titled "Colors Around the World", for under our multi-cultural dome. I might have to borrow your postcard idea to use as part of the display.

In the meantime, concerning copyright laws...please refer to the Fair Use provisions in 17 USC § 107, at the following website.

http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#107

In short, if you're using a work for educational or personal use, it's exempt (you can thank Robespierre for the info).

Have a great time with your project. Peace.

Robyn :)>-

You guys are just the best! I don't know who's going to be more excited as these cards start arriving, me or the kids! I can't wait to post back and tell everyone their response. My goal is for my kids to remember 6th grade as the year they got postcards from around the world--and of course they better remember the places we study too.

Heather--Tell your mom that I also teach LD kids (and some other exceptionalities)!

RST--Newfoundland dog postcard--perfect! I do have enough Italian postcards but appreciate the offer.

Robyn/Artstuff--Sure steal my idea. I'll just get an attorney who specializes in intellectual property law after ya! ;) Actually, I'm flattered that you would even consider my idea for a display in your museum. Wow! If I get extra postcards, would you like me to save them for you?

OneWanderingJew Aug 2nd, 2005 02:21 PM

Robyn/Artstuff--where is this museum??

Chicago_Heather Aug 2nd, 2005 02:47 PM

Forgot to mention that 2 of the countries that I sent are on your need list - Slovenia and Greece. Also, I have a Jackalope postcard from my hometown in southern Illinois if you are interested.

Sorry to report...it's not located anywhere exotic, unless you consider the only town in Pennsylvania as exotic. Actually, the Children's Museum is located in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, a rural area located just west of the Poconos, along the Susquehanna River. Here's the website for the museum...

And, I would love to have any extra postcards you might acquire. You can send them to me at the museum (see "Contact Us" on the website for address). Peace.

Can;t take the time right now to read all the responses, but I think your kids are really fortunate to have the teacher they have!! I will e-m you for an address....even tho I guess you already have London well-represented.., but our journey will take us Milwaukee/Boston/London/S'hamtpon/Falmouth (Cornwall)/Waterford/Cork/St Johns NB and Halifax NS. Any message of import? or just the cards? (and sorry for not reading all the way thru where this might have been covered...the to-do list around here is super-daunting!)

Take a look at these guidelines, Robyn. "For educational purposes" does not get us off the hook when it comes to copying images from the web. That's why the postcard idea is so inspired! And even better, the postcard stands a good chance of actually having been in that wonderful place! J.

I'll be in Paris, Normandy, Bruges, Brussels & Amsterdam during the first 2 weeks of October. If you can use any cards from any of these cities, let me know and I'll email you to get your email address.

HI--since you may get more than you can use, maybe some other schools w/limited resources would benefit from the excess??

OneWanderingJew Aug 5th, 2005 12:46 PM

SW--I will most definately share extra postcards with my collegues and offer them to students as a sort of souvenir. I can't imagine I'll have way too many but if I'm wrong, they won't go to waste :)

OneWanderingJew Aug 9th, 2005 10:52 AM

Hi All!
The first of the postcards arrived today and I am so excited. You guys are the best!

Thanks!
