Kate Aug 1st, 2005 06:28 AM

I can do London, with a stamp from the Queen :)

OneWanderingJew Aug 1st, 2005 06:34 AM

PJI--Iti's the postcards that I'm really after though I know the kids would think it's even cooler w/an international stamp. My goal is to have a bulletin board with postcard photos to give my special ed. students a way to associate a location on the map with a landmark or picture they'll remember.

Gonga, Kate--Thanks!

I have many postcards of different European countries that I just bought because they were beautiful but never sent away to friends. I can pick several of them and put in an envelope and send to you. If that would help, I will send you an e-mail.

OneWanderingJew Aug 2nd, 2005 02:17 AM

That would be great, Kappa. I'll look for your email. Thanks!

jody Aug 2nd, 2005 02:50 AM

jmw44 Aug 2nd, 2005 04:54 AM

Switzerland (surprise, surprise), Austria, and Luxembourg, and maybe Stonehenge (rsvp if you've already got that one.) In the mail by the end of this week. J.

JMW--I'll take 'em!! Thanks!

Is anyone going/living in Scandanavia? I'm still looking for some more postcards, especially Central and Eastern Europe. By chance does anyone have a postcard from Monoco? Czech Republic?

Re the phrase "Roger, Wilco".

"Roger" means "message understood".

"Wilco" is short for "Will Comply"

TRSW Aug 2nd, 2005 07:37 AM

OWJ - I will get one from Vatican City in October, OK?

Tom

OneWanderingJew Aug 2nd, 2005 08:46 AM

TRSW--
That would be perfect as we won't be starting the Europe unit until late fall :)

Thank you so much!
OWJ

Thanks Ira. I didn't know that. ((c))

Hi OWJ,
This is not exactly on topic but something else your 6th graders might enjoy. Someone just introduced me to Google Earth which is lots of fun. You can see recent (but not live) satellite photos of just about anywhere on earth. So, for example, you could type in the address of your school and it would zoom in on that and then type in Buckingham Palace and it will fly you across the ocean and zoom in on that. Some pics are clearer than others, depending on the satellite photo but we had a clear enough picture of the Grand Canal in Venice that we could pick out our little hotel across from the train station. Just go into Google and type in Google Earth and you can download it for free.

HDM--Great minds think alike. I found out about googleearth this summer (thank you whomever posted the link) and have been hooked on it ever since. I plan to use it in my classroom and KNOW the kids will love it! The only problem with that is they may not want to do anything after I show it to them ;)
