1st trip to Paris begins Sept 12th. I would like to propose to my girlfriend at the top of the Eiffel Tower at dusk, then a nice dinner and flowers and champagne at the hotel. Any ideas on hotels, restaurants, etc. Any and all tips, advice and ideas would be appreciated.

Well, that all sounds very romantic. I don't know
much about romantic, expensive restaurants, but
there is a good (fairly expensive) restaurant called
Victor Hugo's on the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower
that might be a good idea -- you will need
reservations. As for the hotel, I don't understand
the question. If you're going to Paris on Sept.12
you should have made reservations a long time ago.
Paris gets very busy in the Fall with business
and conventions, and it can be hard to get a good
room (or sometimes any room), although I think
mid-Sept. is a little easier than October.

I don't know any specific restaurants but the Eiffel Tower is in the 7th arrondisement. I would look at some tour books for that section of Paris. My husband and I have stayed at two hotels near the Eiffel Tower. The Grand Hotel LeVeque on Rue Cler phone 47-05-49-15 and the Hotel Eiffel Rive Gauche on Rue Gros Calliou phone???. One of them has a room with a view of "the Tower" but I can't remember which one. Both were fairly inexpensive. (Don't know your budget) The LeVeque is on a street with shops. The Rive Gauche is on a very quiet street. We liked both of them.

Neat idea! There is a restaurant in the Tower-we were there last Oct. We did not eat there because there are so many other great places to eat. We are lovers of ice cream and I would have loved a proposeal at the Berthillon sorbet/ice cream shop in Ile de St Louis (spelling?) It would also be romantic to sit outside at one of the cafe's in Montmartre if the Tower is to crowded! You will love Paris!!

hey... cool.. my boyfriend then (husband now) proposed to
me on top of Toyko Tower ... & when we went Paris
for a holiday.... he asked me all over again at Effiel Tower..
I'm sure your girlfriend will say Yes !!!!
but just a pointer... u might have to face quite a big crowd
during this time 'cos it's summer & Paris gets very very
crowded ... we had to queue for over 2 hours to reach the top !!!

Idealistically, it should be very romantic at the top of the Eiffel Tower, but also be prepared for the realistic.
We were in Paris in Early June, my 3rd time there. We went to the top of the tower twice during this stay,
once during the day, which was no problem at all, got right on the elevator & went to the 3rd level with no
wait. The second time we went just before dusk. That was only about 1/2 wait to get on the first elevator &
then another 1/2 wait to get on the 2nd elevator to the 3rd level. Once on the 3rd level, it was so crowded on
the outside deck that nobody could hardly move. People were pushing & shoving, not caring how it affected what
you were also trying to see & do. Not all the tourists up there were American either, there are a number of nationalities
where pushing & shoving come naturally, Couldn't wait to get back down
again. Hopefully it won't be so crowded when you are there, but just be fore-warned of what you can possibly
expect. But under the right circumstances, it can truely be a fantastic view & a magical place. Make sure you
go to the 3rd level. There is a difference of view between what you see on the 2nd & 3rd levels.
