Please Help on Gstaad

Can anyone give me any advice on what to do in Gstaad for a day? I do know of the website for the town, but was looking for personal experiences. Also, what is the best train to take from Geneva to Gstaad?

thank you

Very easy to get from Geneva to Gstaad. Takes some 2,5 hours with a change in Montreux. Frequent trains (almost every hour).

As for accommodation, you asked in your other post, the Gstaad area offers hotels in all price ranges! If you mentioned what you're willing to pay, suggestions would be much easier. I suggest you search in Saanen, Schoenried or Saanenmoeser, the nearby villages. Less expensive, more laidback and sunnier than Gstaad itself.

As for what to do in one day, OMG there are lots of things. Visit the gorgeous little church in Saanen. Visit a cheese factory in Chateux d'Oex, go hiking and have some cheese and a glass of wine in one of the gorgeous places (like the Eggli, very sunny terrace).
Do some window shopping in Gstaad and have a drink at the Olden Bar.
Have fun!

I assume there is some reason you have decided to go particularly to Gstaad, often billed as "the most expensive village in Europe" BTW...but all these things that have been suggested you could do in a lot of other places in Switzerland. I guess I don;t understand your post...why would you go to a place as small as this unless you already knew what there is to do?

I've just been told its a nice town to visit so i figured i'd get a good view of part of switzerland if i took the train from geneva to gstaad and back within a day.

without a car, is it easy to get around the town? like to the famous expensive hotel and the shops as well as go hiking in the mountains?

Two weeks ago we were in rural Switzerland when we got news that our granddaughter had been born. We decided to get her a traditional Swiss dress, so we went to Zweissimen, a larger village. The clerk there told us no one wears those dresses any more, but suggested they might be available in Gstaad, as it was a more touristy area. We went to Gstaad and found the dress, and walked around the village, which was interesting, but decided to go on to Montreaux for lunch, as it was near and we had not been there. The train ride from Gstaad to Montreaux and back was very scenic. Gstaad itself seemed more international than Swiss to me, but if that is your only chance to get up into the mountains I would take it.
