Piccolo Hotel Oliveta Booked - Siena - Any Other Suggestions

I have finally settled on days I am going to be in Siena and need a moderate hotel for 4 nights. This is for our Honeymoon and we prefer to be outside of the city walls, but still within walking distance to the center of Siena. Good views and rooms are prefered and 150-180 Euro a night max.

That's too bad! We loved our stay there. It's a great location. I noticed just down the block from the Piccolo Hotel Oliveta was a 3 star call Hotel Santa Caterina. http://www.hscsiena.it/index.htm It looks like a mixed set of reviews on Trip Advisor, but I did a quick search here and found favorable mentions. I'm sorry, I don't have personal experience, nor do I know the rate, but check with the hotel. I also noted that they have parking.

Good luck!

I am leaning towards the Santa Caterina or inside the walls at the Palazzo Ravizza...seems to be the best rated here. Anyone else have other ideas?

You have the 2 best options now. Both are very nice and meet your criteria.

We stayed at the Hotel Villa Piccolo Siena...I know, it sounds the same as the hotel you tried, but it's different.

It is just outside the city walls, but within walking distance. It has some parking.

It was clean, quiet, and enjoyable. It has a restaurant/bar right next to it where your breakfast is served. I thought this mught make the place noisy, but it didn't. And the food was good, too.

You can't go wrong with the Ravizza. Be sure and enjoy the restaurant.

Santa Caterina is the best three star we've ever stayed at in Italy. It's outside the gate, but is an easy walk to the piazza. Great rooms, service, and breakfast. Make sure and ask for a room with a garden view.

Try either Il Casato or Villa Liberty. Both are listed on http://www.tuscany.net and are lovely, inside the old city and well priced.

So far Hotel Garden outside of Siena is the only place with space for us. It isn't perfect location wise and seems a bit large, but at this point I don't have many options. Anyone hate or love Hotel Garden? Room options in anex or main building? Thanks everyone!!!

Have you tried my suggestion? It certainly fits what you're looking for...but not much of a view.

Also, if you're inquiring through a booking service, and not talking with the hotel directly, that could be the reason.

Hope it works out for you.

Jim,
I did request a room from Villa Piccolo Siena like you suggested, but I have yet to hear back from them - I emailed them and may have to Fax them. It looks like a good option

Ok here are my latest available options, and I may post a new topic to make it more on topic. All other hotels seem to be full.

Hotel Garden Siena 155-175 Euro night
Villa Belvedere Colle Val d' Elsa (15km Siena) 98 Euro night.

We would prefer to be right in Siena and it seems if we are away from the town we could go even further away and still just drive in and park.

P.S. this is for part of our Honeymoon!

Too bad you could not get a room at Piccolo Hotel Oliveta. Antonio and Alexandra are wonderful hosts. Antonio also has wine tours, which you may be interested in doing. I plan to be at their place in late May and we?ll be doing a wine and olive oil tasting tour. I'm sure you will find a nice place for your honeymoon.

May I ask why you would want to be outside of the city walls? Most of the places outside are not as nice unless you go for the high end places. For example, to get to the Piccolo Siena, Garden, Park, etc. by walking you have to walk on a very busy newly developed street with a huge Blockbuster etc. It is not a relaxing stroll at all (I used to live across from the Garden and did the walk frequently) What are the dates you are looking at and I can check around.

siena us:

We are considering the Piccolo Oliveta for 6 days next March. But your comments about the walk are giving me 2nd thoughts. You say "why would you want to be outside the city walls?". One word: Parking.

I've read a lot of these boards and the consensus seems to be, if you have a car, stay outside the town. But we are two women, mid 50's. The walk you describe doesn't sound like something I'd look forward to after dinner each night. Could you fill me in a little more?

Palazzo Ravizza, which is just inside the walls, has private parking but not in front of the hotel. You have to drive in to deposit your luggage and again to pick it up at departure, but you will have no problems with the car.

The rooms at the back have a wonderful view of the Tuscan countryside. The food is not spectacular, but the garden setting more than makes up for it.

Yes, parking is the main reason for parking outside the walls...and for driving out of town to do day trips. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the Campo, so it's not a long walk.

Let me clarify, in addition to parking, Oliveta is a great place to stay with wonderful hosts.

Warning @ the Villa Piccola Siena! I & my family of 4 stayed here this past July for the Palio. Although the room was tiny(a double bed & bunkbeds)for 4 adults we managed. Also, the hotel does require either a car or taxi to get to & from town, but we managed.
The problem was ordering Palio tickets from this hotel & the Cor Magis Travel Agency. We were to have balcony access to see the Palio, which we did, but the balcony was standing room only for 40 people. We were not told it was to be that way. We didn't mind standing for 4-5 hours prior to the race, but we were so packed that movement of any kind was impossible. Refreshements & light snacks were to be provided, which they were. But the water ran out well before the race on a sweltering day in which we were always in the sun. The management did nothing about it when told of the problem. We did have access to the restroom, but were told after the fact that if we left our spot 1 hour before the race we would lose out spot. I'll add that the leftover snacks were presented as breakfacst the next morning.
The worst part was that the owner of the property (Key Largo Bar) on which the balcony was located pushed his way onto the balcony w/ 4 friends just before the race began. He then proceeded to sexually assault one of the members of my family group. The only thing that made him stop were that the injured party left in tears. When we complained to the representative of the hotel he pretended to not understand. Even when our Italian speaking companions told him he just shrugged & walked off. When we lodged a formal complaint later the management of the Villa Piccola Siena said we were spoiled & to get over it.
Avoid this place at all costs!!!!!!
