picadilly circus

My husband and son have a night free without us girls. My husband mentioned they might want to go to Picadilly circus. I was not able to find much info. about this place. I didn't know if there would be much to do at night in that area. Any info. would be appreciated. Hopefully I have my act together and this will be my last post!
Marilyn

Marilyn,
Piccadilly circus, like Oxford circus, is nothing more than a traffic circle or roundabout where a number of streets intersect. Other than looking up at the mannequins of rock stars on the balcony of the building on Shaftsbury Avenue north of the circus, there isn't a heck of a lot to do there. I'd suggest they take the pub tour I posted to you in response to an earlier inquiry of yours.

Dear Marilyn: It depends on what your menfolk are looking for. Piccadilly Circus is a sort of center for lots of different activities--from big movie houses to ladies of the evening. It's a principal stop on several Underground lines; there are good restaurantrs within walking distance (tho' not on Piccadilly itself) and there are several good legitimate theaters on other side streets (the Haymarket has the most). It is not where I would choose to spend the evening--but chacun a son gout! Joan

Picadilly Circus does not have too much - but there is Planet Hollywood, Fashion Cafe, Sports Cafe, and the Trocodero (computer simulater, rides, Imax theatre), Phantom is in Picadilly, there is a great Irish Pub called Waxy O'connors... but 5 minute walk away (1 tube stop) is Leicester Square - loads of great pubs, clubs, buskers to watch, people to watch, and a great vibe. 1 tube stop further east than that is Covent Garden - the most vibrant area in London. Loads of street performers, hundreds of pubs and clubs (try Punch and Judy's - it has a verandah you can sit on overlooking the street performance, great way to spend your time). I know the area pretty well, so if you say what specifically they're wanting to do, I can suggest a place.
I just had another thought... for a guaranteed great night out they should try the Comedy Store in Picadilly. Ticketmaster takes bookings for it.
