Perugia
One of our traveling companion's relatives came from Perugia, so we have decided to visit the city. We will spend the night, are there suggestions for hotels or b&b's and places to eat in Perugia. We leave the next day for Tuscany (San G.). Any information will be appreciated.

We stayed at the Chocolate Hotel - http://www.chocohotel.it/
It was OK, kind of a business type hotel, not in the old center of town but very easy to get to. We choose it because it sounded like fun, had AC, parking and pool (we were there in the summer with kids). Got a free candy bar when you checked in.
I did really enjoy the old center of Perugia, I don't think very many people visit it, instead opting for Assisi or Spello, etc., but I'm glad we spent a couple of days there. If you have a car when you drive up towards the old town you park in a "garage" that is under the old town and take a series of escalators up to the center of the town, and in so doing pass through some old Roman ruins which are really neat. It's described in most guide books.

linbab, the old center of Perugia is quite interesting. It is a college town and students from all over the world congregate in the central piazza at night. Lots of interesting little bars and restaurants down the narrow side streets from the piazza.
This part of Perugia is up on a hill and there is a system of escalators to help transport pedestrians from the lower part of town, as isabel describes.
(Can drive up but parking is not so easy; bus lines run up and down as well).
A great cafe in the center of town, Sandri I think, has lovely decor and wonderful pastries.
Definitely worth at least one night!

I would stay in town to really explore and enjoy this lovely city. Hotel La Rosetta is an excellent choice and very nicely priced:
