Paris Travelogue (One week in June with a toddler)
We always benefit tremendously from the trip reports and advice on the Fodor's forum, so thought it might be nice to share our week in Paris with an almost-two-year-old. Our travelogue: Part one (http://www.hitherandthither.net/2013...-part-one.html) and two (http://www.hitherandthither.net/2013...-part-two.html).
We had a great time but definitely found Paris to be a tough city (tougher than average) for truly taking advantage of all it has to offer with a small child in tow. We used babysitting, which made it possible to dine out at night, etc.
Happy travels!

The parentheses are creating a problem for the link. Apologies:

Wonderful, wonderful trip report!
We are far beyond touring with little ones, but your tale brings back memories of many years ago traveling in France with our four tykes; the twin girls being about the age of yours. The expressions of joy on those tiny faces when they have wonderous new experiences are the things that last and last, and will always bring a smile.

I don't know whether to be more impressed with your bravery or your honesty!
This trip wouldn't be for everybody, certainly not for people who have those long lists of must-dos, but you had a fantastic trip of your own! Not only will you remember it, I'll remember it from your photos!
We had our children early, in our mid-20's, before we started our careers, so we were too poor to travel except to grandma's when they were your adorable son's age. But we made up for it later!
I look forward to looking at other things on your website.
Thank you!

Oh, and we have rented a flat, literally across the rue de Turenne from your Marais boulangerie. Every morning, someone got up early to bring home fresh pastries and bread.
You could not have picked a better place to stop!

Your Paris travelogue is outstanding !
You've captured the essence and style of one of my favourite cities in your lovely writing and beautiful photos, and your son is precious. Theres nothing more enjoyable than reading a well written and honest report that makes familiar places, things and memories come alive for the reader, so 'merci' and well done.
My niece and her husband will be travelling with their (by then) almost 2.5yo daughter to London and England this June and they are very similar in attitude and travel style as you. They visited Scandinavia last year when she was 16 mths and they say having their angel accustomed to a schedule and sticking to it made their traveling very pleasant for them and those around them. I will be linking them to your report.
But more than that, your entire blog is a gem. I've bookmarked it and can see that I have many more wonderful entries to read and enjoy. Thanks again for sharing.

We've traveled with our kids forever. Now they are 21 and 23. At the end of march we're going with them to Paris for a week. Paris seems so sophisticated, so chic. I feel a little intimidated by it all. I enjoyed your trip report.

Lovely report. Like nukesafe and santamonica, I have wonderful memories of the long-ago time when I wandered in Europe with a 3-year-old and a baby. We lived in northern Italy for a year and a half and it was clear that if we wanted to explore, we had to figure out how to do it with little ones in tow. Seeing the pictures of your little one enjoying Paris brought back those memories. Thanks.

I hadn't visited the site in a while (on here looking for Italy tips--we now have a second child and are traveling there when she will be 6 months). Anyway, thank you all so much for the lovely comments about the travelogue. Really nice to hear that you enjoyed reading it so much and that it brought back fond memories for many of you!
