Paris Hotel Tax?
Can anyone tell me what I should expect to pay in taxes for a Paris Hotel? Some rates I have seen seem to have no tax. One hotel in particular has a nightly rate of $95 but with taxes is $115. Is this correct? Please help as this will determine where I will stay.

In my experience, rates quoted by Paris hotels already include taxes. Likewise, prices on menus already include the VAT (and 15% service), as do price tags on goods in stores. Your total for hotel, restaurant, whatever, should generally be a simple addition of the quoted prices; tax is already figured in. Look at the reputable hotel listing sites, e.g., pariserve.com, travelinparis.com and a hopst of others referred to in posts on this forum.

Paris hotels now charge about 6 or 6FF per day per person for room tax. Other taxes may be rolled into the rate but this one is added on. We noticed it last time we were there and hotels I'm checking for next visit all indicate the rate - i.e. 650FF plus 6FF room tax.

Alex, I would be a little suspicious of any hotel in Paris quoting you a rate without tax included (except a very small per room city tax - something like 5 francs). And unless you're booking through some sort of US portal or agency, I would expect them to quote in francs rather than dollars.
