Paris

I will be meeting my best friend from college in Paris next weekend for Fashion Week. I am a little nervous as we live differnet lives. She is in the fashion world in London and I am working in San Diego, CA. We are both 26 but the single scene does not interest us. We are looking for great dinner ideas, post dinner thoughts, and thoughtful attractions during the day as she is working. We already have a five star hotel in the "theatre district". I want to explore while she is working. I am not working on a student budget but would like to keep this trip around budget. I would like to know simple itinearies along with some helpful tips to ensure a pleasurable experience. Sorry if this bores you all.

Are you talking about Paris? I ask because when I hear "theater district" I think of London, and there aren't any 5* hotels in Paris--4*luxe is the highest designation.

Pick up the Paris edition of City Walks. It's a deck of 50 cards with a map on one side and commentary on the other. The walks are easy to do and it's so much fun to explore the areas. I've been to Paris many times and I still find something beautiful and new around every corner. You never need to spend lots of money (altho you easily can) to have a fantastic experience in Paris.

Paris is very easy to see solo and mostly on foot (with some use of public bus or metro or taxi).

My best map was simply one I got in the hotel lobby. Find a few places you want to go see (Eiffle Tower, Luxembourg Gardens, whatever) and set out walking.

Do carry a business card from your hotel, so if you get tired or lost you can always grab a taxi and get back "home".

Another good idea would be to buy a guidebook, even if you just read it on the plane ride over, or each morning as you decide what to do that day.

Without further explanation, I would assume that 'theatre district' means the 9th arrondissement, although the 10th arrondissement also qualifies.

In such a case, a dinner at Flo one evening might be in order.

We loved the restaurant "Les Comediens" on the rue de la Trinite in the 9th. Lively theater crowd and great food.
