Palermo - Grand Hotel or Central Palace

Has anyone stayed at either or both of these hotels lately? What are the neighborhoods & rooms like nowadays. In doing a search, just messages from 1 1/2 yrs. ago come up. Maybe no one has stayed at either of these hotels since then????

Thanks in advance.

I don't mean to sound rude, but let's be honest, the rooms aren't going to be much different than they were a year and a half ago, and it is very doubtful that the neighborhood has changed either. I would understand your concern if all the information was 15 or 20 years old, but how much change do you think there would be in a year and a half?

Patrick - Because of some of the info written in a few of the previous posts going back 1 1/2 and more yrs. re the condition of some of the rooms, I was wondering if there had been any renovations. Also, I wanted to know if some of the neighborhoods that didn't sound too safe to walk through at night had changed.

Caroline - Actually, I meant the Grand Hotel des Palmes. From what I have read the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea is on the outskirts of Palermo but it sounds lovely!!!!!!

The G.H. Villa Igiea is a bit away from the centre but it has a shuttle bus to the centre. We stayed there for a week, loved it & would stay there again.

Thanks Caroline. I bet taking the shuttle makes Palermo much more approachable when someone else who knows that city is doing the driving.

Absolutely We were finishing off a touring holiday in Palermo, found the hotel without too much trouble (hotels are signposted) but were very happy to avail ourselves of their offer to return the car to the city centre rental office for us for E20 !

During our stay there we also got taxis a few times with no trouble - once when we had been at the opera, after the shuttle stopped running, and other times when we were visiting places away from the centre.
