Outskirts Munich Accommodations

Anyone out there know of some reasonable places to stay on the outskirts of Munich? I just returned from there and inquired about accommodations for September and I was told that everything in the downtown area is booked because of Oktoberfest. How about some places on the train line a little distance from the City? Thanks.

Try Landshut. Beautiful and charming medieval town with train connections to Munich. By the way, trains during Oktoberfest are just as bad to get in/out.

Kathy, you might also look into Erding, which has trains directly into town (they turn into the subway). Starnberg is also a nice area, and the lake is lovely (although where King Ludwig died). Make sure you don't miss Oktoberfest, and have a wonderful time.. it's the best time of the year to be in Germany, I think.

Try Freising and Markt Schwaben, both with subway and regional trains in 30 minutes down-town Munich. Also Augsburg, becaus itīs connected with the ICE, about 40 minutes.

Augsburg is one of the oldest and most charming little cities I visited in Germany. If access is easy to Munich, I'd vote for it!
