Opinions on Tuscany base- Siena, Chianti, Orvieto?
Hello! You all have been so helpful- I think I'm close to actually having an itinerary for our honeymoon! We will stay in Montalcino and Florence on either end of the trip, but I need help in the middle.
We will NOT have a car, so we are looking for an affordable (under $500 USD) rental for a week. In addition, we would like the following:
-Convenient (as possible!) bus or train travel to other hill towns, and also for interesting walking routes
-A town that's charming on its own, so that we can enjoy the area in which we're staying for a day or two as well (on honeymoon, so will want some relaxing days!)
-Some semblance of nightlife? We're not big bar/club people, but we don't want to stay in a place that's a ghost town at night either!
It seems that the following three places fit the bill (more or less), and are all different. Please give the good, bad and ugly And also, any additional suggestions are welcome!
Siena, Le Meridiane
Barberino Val d'Elsa- Bardotti
Orvieto, Palazzo del Cardinale (not quite Tuscany, but can travel to Tuscany)
I'm leaning towards the first two, because I would like to see San Gim; but we can always save it for another trip!
Thank you all a hundred times over for your wisdom and advice. Perhaps this thread will be helpful to other car-less people as well!
