I'm curious, how much do you plan to spend?

Dear mjs: Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I will check Holiday Inn Express out.
We are not planning to drive in or around Nice. But I still prefer to have "all inclusive"
coverage, for the sake of peace of mind. I apologize for responding late.
Lily T

One last comment about cars:

I used AutoEurope and Kemwell for decades in Europe.
About five years ago, I saw the light and found SIXT. I could not have been happier with every single rental experience I've had with them in the past five years--probably ten or eleven rentals.
They are a German company set to expand in the US.
Booking directly through an agency offers quite a few benefits, as Starrs has pointed out. One of these is the much larger selection of cars you will be offered when booking direct.
If you try to book SIXT through a broker, you will see a fraction of the choices.
I also get the direct phone number of the manager at the rental location, in case of any problems.

If money is no object, the Negresco is a very nice hotel! I stayed at a Marriott property in Nice.

I always rent through AutoEurope.com or kemwel.com and I take the full coverage.

Dear all,

I want to thank all of you who have posted here in response to my initial inquiry. The responses I have received are very helpful for me to finalize the itinerary. I wish all of you have a happy holiday!

I have two lingering questions:

1) After we spend one week in Nice, we will take train from Nice to Avignon.
Is it necessary to purchase tickets beforehand? Or we can just buy tickets on the day of travel?

2) I received a lot of useful information for car rental. I wonder what is the time to book a car for our travel in mid May. Is it necessary to book it, say, 3 months ahead?

Thanks,

Best,
Lily T
