Normandy lodging?

Any recommendations for inexpensive to moderate lodging in Normandy? Main visit will be to invasion sites. Was looking at Thermes Marins Riva Bella, Hotel Thermes et du Casino, Quality Hotel, and Residence Green Panorama, all in Ouistreham. Does anyone have anything good or ill to say on these, or other suggestions?

Robert

We were happy at this big, rambling B@B owned by Col. and Mrs. Chilcott. The colonel also leads tours of the invasion sites, but we toured on our own.

Le Manor des Doyens
St Loup Hors
Bayeux
14400 France
From US: 011 33 2 31 22 39 09
[email protected]
www.vrbo.com/vrbo/352.htm
We spent one night in Arromanches and used that as our base. We stayed at Hotel d'Arromanches and I highly recommend it. Here's the website- www.hoteldarromanches.fr- although the pictures do not do it justice. We had three rooms, all large and nicely decorated. The hotel is right around the corner from the beach and from each room you could smell the ocean or see it. We paid about $50 per room and that included breakfast. It was the best hotel we stayed in during our 10 day trip. Arromanches itself is on Gold beach and you can walk the walk and still see the German bunkers. There are two excellent museums there. If I had to do it over again, I would have spent more time in this small town- I enjoyed it so much!

We stayed outside of Caen at the Manior des Tourpes on the River Dives. Great old mansion with four rooms and nice base to explore the area. Owner is American Mike Cassady and his French wife. Mike's email is [email protected]. Our room last July was 400F per night for 2 that included breakfast. We will go back there again someday. Mike was great.

We stayed at Chateau de Goville outside of Bayeaux and found it very convenient. It is very quaint and everyone there is nice. We found it on France.com
The man who owns it has a doll house collection. We loved Bayeux!! Normandy is wonderful. Do not miss Honfleur.

Highly recommend Chateau de Lignerolles outside of Bayeux. www.lignerolles.homestead.com
We made it our base 6/01 to see Normandy, 400F double and 550F triple including a very very large breakfast. The folks who run it Roel, Pia, and Thijs Klinkhamer are Dutch. They moved there because of Roel lifelong facination with the Invasion. He gives tours as Victory Tours and really knows and LOVES his topic. He used the time between stops to give more information and answer questions. They are renovating an old Chateau with son Thijs doing much of the design and work. The is long but it was our best stop in France. The family is GREAT plus after a week we were getting on each other nerves and my 10yr old daughter, wife, and I could spread out at the Chateau: read in a room alone, bird watch/walk the grounds, watch TV, visit with the family - each in our own space.
