Normandy Hotel Help
I will be in Normandy for two days. The first day I will be at Mont St. Michel and will be staying there over night. The next day, I will be touring the WWII sites. I will be drivign back to Paris the next morning, and am looking for a nice place for that one night. I can stay anywhere between Bayeux & Paris. Thanks.

How about Honfleur? My favorite is La Ferme Saint-Simeon. see www.relaischateaux.fr.simeon
or La Chaumiere. See www.reliaschateaux.fr/chaumiere
Rooms are about $200US but are total luxury.
Second Honfleur, as there is much to see and excellent places to eat.

I stayed at Cheval BLanc as cheaper than the recommendation above, great location and view, rooms comfortable though not luxurious.

Alternatively for a small isolated auberge with excellent food, and great prices in a traditional ancient norman timbered building, try Auberge Val le Cesne which is just near Yvetot, details and review in a previous thread called "Kavey's Normandy Trip Report/ Diary May 2001"

Kav

Adam, I would stay somewhere in Bayeux. You will have a long drive from Mt St Michel, then spend the day touring the WW2 sites around Bayeux, maybe seeing the museum in Caen, the D-Day beaches, etc. Honfleur is 1hr 15 min beyond Bayeux. I would just stay in Bayeux and absorb as much of the sites as I could. By the way, if you stay there I don't have a hotel recommendation, but I do have a restaurant recommendation: Le Petit Normand. The food was great, very reasonably priced, and when I went there, I met St Cirq who posts frequently on this board - she and her family were sitting at the next table! Talk about small world! I used many of St Cirqs recommendations for a Dordogne visit last year as well as her directions to Mont. St Michel. Anyway, if you do decide to opt for Honfleur, I did stay there, it is a lovely harbor town and we stayed at Hotel L'Ecrin and enjoyed it. I believe it was about $100 US. The breakfast was nice, too.
