Normandy Beaches Closed??
I was planning to go to the D-Day sites and Mont St Michel in two weeks - but now I might not because of foot & mouth. I thought I heard Peter Jennings say something about the Normandy sites being closed, but I was listening to the tv from another room so I didn't catch what he said. What has anyone heard?

I doubt hoof & mouth disease will affect your plans to visit Normandy. At present, there is a quarantined area around the town of Meyenne because a herd of sheep imported from England was found there to have the disease and was recently exterminated. The authorities are waiting to see if the disease has spread anywhere else in the region, but as of the France@ news tonight, the word is no. At any rate, your plans to visit the region shouldn't be affected, and as far as I know there has been absolutely no news about D-Day sites or le Mont St-Michel.
