Hello!<BR>I am flying into Zurich and from there will be taking a train to Venice (and from there to Prague). I have an extra day on either side (before or after Venice) and i was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations of anywhere to go between these two cities (especially places in the mountains).<BR><BR>Thank!<BR>Matt

Matt--<BR>Ordinary trains won't be able to take you up into the mountains, but you can stop at a number of places surrounded by lovely mountain scenery. From your railroad stop, you can catch a cog railway or cable car to many mountainside locations. I don't know the route of the particular connections you will be making, but you might most likely be going south to Milan, then east to Venice. If that is the case, you might consider stopping around Lugano, Como, or Bergamo for a day. There are tons of other places along any route you might take. You should get yourself a map and determine where the route takes you (or find out from your travel agent or whoever makes the train reservations) and then come back to this board for more specific advice along your specific route. I wouldn't recommend Luzern, not because it isn't pretty, but just because it is hardly any distance on the way to Venice. I'd suppose you might want to go somewhere that is more halfway. Anyway, if you come back with more questions, we can help a little more.

Hi Matt,<BR><BR>You could go to St. Moritz or Pontresina, it takes 3:30 h from Zurich. Stay one night and take the Bernina-Express train to Tirano next morning 9:40 am. Arr. in Tirano 11:59 am. Dep. Tirano 12:45 , arr. Milan 15:30, dep. Milan 16:05, arr. Venice 18:45.<BR><BR>It is the most scenic route!<BR><BR>Ingo

I would agree wholeheartedly with Ingo on the route through St. Moritz. If you have a choice, that's the best way to go. I just didn't know whether you might have already committed to a specific route.

St. Moritz or Luzern both look beautiful. Do any of you have any experience with Verona, is it worth looking in to rather than St. Moritz or Luzern?<BR><BR>Thanks for all the help!<BR>Matt

I stayed on Lake Garda and did daytrips to Verona. It is not a place in the mountains! It is just an Italian city with lots of sights. If you are going to Venice it makes no sense to stay in Verona for one day. The mountains are completely different to Venice, Verona is not.<BR><BR>Ingo
