harzer Aug 13th, 2003 08:27 PM

I can't get turned on by any Turkish word that I can find and so I give up.

In the meantime I was posting something to keep us going, but I forgot to give the necessary information on length and intersecting letter. Here it is for what it's worth at this stage, where most fodorites seem to have lost interest:

_ _ _ A _ _ _

jody Aug 14th, 2003 02:27 AM

Since Harzer has given up..so do I

SO Here it is.

Aphrodiasis....

Mispronouced you might come up with aphrodisiac

Temple to Aphrodite , goddess of love

MArquis de Sade , arrrested for using above! That was an inadvertent clue supplied by Betty's word

Turkey , betty guessed

Major archeology discovery ..Dig!

See that was easy

jody Aug 14th, 2003 02:29 AM

So far I've only bee able to unscramble 3 words in your clue! But it is earl yet!

jody Aug 14th, 2003 02:33 AM

You Trickster..I got the clue , now to find the answer!

cmt Aug 14th, 2003 03:23 AM

(I'll start a new one to keep this thread going. See the other crossword thread for solution to Jody's clue.)

NEW WORD:

7 letters; one of them is "a"

Mode of transport for a horseless palio on the Velino River

jody Aug 14th, 2003 03:25 AM

Carol..HArzer has already started a new word..see above

cmt Aug 14th, 2003 03:26 AM

I'm sorry! I meant to post this on the OTHER crossword thread but got confused. THIS thread has the solution to Jody's clue and also has a new word to figure out. The OTHER thread is lying dormant, so I'll go there now.

jody Aug 17th, 2003 05:02 AM

okay 3days and I know every lake in the world! but none fit..another clue please harzer

Betty1 Aug 17th, 2003 06:25 AM

I think I have harzer's word: Lake BALATON (Hungary)- NOT A LAB backwards.

Anyone interested in continuing this?

jody Aug 17th, 2003 07:16 AM

I need a head-banging emoticon!

I just know you are correct!

cmt Aug 17th, 2003 07:28 PM

Balaton HAS to be correct. It makes perfect sense, since the clue was written backwards.

Betty1 Aug 17th, 2003 08:01 PM

OK, cmt and jody, since you both think I'm right and apparently are still interested in our little game, I'll offer this one. Perhaps some others will join in.

The lioness sleeps here in all seasons. 10 letters (11 in an alternate spelling), 4th letter is T.

I'm off to bed. Will check back in the morning.

jody Aug 18th, 2003 01:00 AM

Wild guess

Fontevrault Eleanor of Acquitaine burial place?

Betty1 Aug 18th, 2003 04:34 AM

Not so wild, jody. You are correct! I was prepared to add "Also the lion and a cub." (Henry II and Richard the Lionheart) Obviously, you didn't need the extra clue. My clue refers, of course, to the great movie "The Lion in Winter." BTW, the other spelling is Fontevraud.

So, want to try to come up with another one, in addition to the one you have going on the other thread?

jody Aug 18th, 2003 04:50 AM

I'll cede my turn if someone else wants to go! I'm getting stumped for words and clues!

Did you see the answer to the "mispronounced" place..you had the right country..Turkey..
The answer was Aphrodiasis!

Steve_James Aug 18th, 2003 04:59 AM

Hey - can I set one?
I'm doing better at thinking up clues than getting an answer! :(

Idle physician filmed here conversing with unconventional patients.

cmt Aug 18th, 2003 05:15 AM

Steve: Tell us how many letters. Also usually we use one letter from the previous word, and we tell where in the new word that letter appears. (But if you think your word is particularly easy you can leave that out.)

Steve_James Aug 18th, 2003 05:33 AM

Sorry folks! OK - the letter A is the second.
The answer is two words (5/5)
(- hope that doesn't make it TOO easy!)

_ A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Steve_James Aug 18th, 2003 05:35 AM

Reposting

_ A _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _

jody Aug 18th, 2003 05:48 AM
