No, I didn't forget, cmt - just having a hard time with it. Sounds a bit like a cave painting but none I know fit. Am I the least bit warm? And, BTW, what the heck is a stigma plucker???
replies:
not in a cave botanical item |
sounds more like Hieronymus Bosch :)
Betty! A stigma is also the "the part of the pistil that receives the pollen".
So the 'stigma plucker' might be a bee or wasp I guess. And the whole word is 'botanical'; and it's a mispronunciation of something you get from your travel agent. All I can come up with is Devonian. |
Harzer, you're confusing my clue with someone else's. Mine has nothing to do with mispronouncing something from your travel agent. Also the stigma plucker is a person.
Another hint: art |
Oh yes, so I am. But I'm still none the wiser.
Another hint: unusual hairdos.
Pompadour
No that clue about the hairdo was in ADDITION to the ones about monkeys and little boxers and stigma pluckers and other odd things. It wasn't a brand new clue.
Additional clue: the answer is the name of a place. |
The above post was supposed to say "Note that ...."
You're not really giving up, are you? Does anyone want another hint?
Yes please cmt...:)
what country?
additional hints:
1. I know that many of my clues have been about Italy. This one is not. 2. Atlantis? |
I've got it! Finally! Akrotiri - on the Greek Island of Thira (or Thera).
Ancient temple with very Egyptian-like paintings. stigma pluckers=Saffron Gatherers, little boxers=children boxing. Others quite straightforward. Found it by googling "Atlantis." For more see http://www.culture.gr/2/21/211/21121a/e211ua08.html Good one, cmt! Someone else can take my turn as I will be out of town for a few days. Now I can finally turn off the computer and go pack. |
Betty, Have a great time, Bon Voyage, Hugs, mimi
YES, IT'S AKROTIRI!

When the opera opened at the Scala in Milan in 1842, was a sensation.. The audience felt the pain of the Israelites slaves and the longing for their r country. In the plight of the theIsraelites, , the Italian audience in a spontaneous outburst, begun to sing Va pensiero.......A nation and his people can be occupied, but the mind is free. Italy also was occupied by the Austrian, the Spaniard and the French.. The Austrians generals and high officials left the Ttheater in hurry.... At Verdi funeral in 1901, a huge crowd begun to sing the song that had come to symbolize Italian freedom... |
