Your'e up , Clifton!

Clifton Aug 2nd, 2003 10:16 AM

Ah, ok... wasn't expecting to actually get one.

Hmm, ok.
A rocket and toro hooves and everyone goes.
I'm looking for this city's alter ego.

5 letters, ends with an "A"

cmt Aug 2nd, 2003 11:08 AM

Arena? (Nah...can't be)

Clifton Aug 2nd, 2003 11:32 AM

too soon for hints?

sicula Aug 2nd, 2003 11:54 AM

Thanks ctm for correcting my spelling. Do I still get to play? If I do then I'd like to take another Sicilian "M". This little backwater berg was the birthplace of the notorious folk hero Turridu as he was called by the locals. Ten letters starting with "M".

Does it have something to do with the running of the bulls at Pamplona?

Clifton Aug 2nd, 2003 12:15 PM

Si!

jody Aug 2nd, 2003 01:25 PM

Sicula..the only Turridu I can think of is from Cavalleria Rusticana...I just pulled out the Libretto from my CD but it doesn't name a village...but that's okay , I have it on am and enjoying Maria Callas ! Is this the Turridu you are thinking about or is it more obscure?

Clifto....my brain is filled with music right now..not bull hooves!

LVSue Aug 2nd, 2003 01:35 PM

Sicula--Montelepre?

LVSue Aug 2nd, 2003 01:39 PM

Clifton, Yamaguchi is its sister city; Mesquite, NV also has a running of the bulls; but I can't think of any other alter ego. Hints?

LVSue Aug 2nd, 2003 01:47 PM

I think I found it! Iruna?

Clifton Aug 2nd, 2003 01:59 PM

Yep Sue, that's it. Pamplona, being in Basque country has a Basque name as well. Iruña.

It's all yours!

LVSue Aug 2nd, 2003 02:12 PM

YAY! I think I got Sicula's, too, so that brings us back to only one clue ongoing, and an easy one at that.

8 letters, the 6th is U, building on the U in Iruna. Endless French all together with bloodsucker makes city pink.

Betty1 Aug 2nd, 2003 02:52 PM

Too (tout?) easy, Sue! Tou-louse, La ville rose!

Mine's easy, too. 6 lettres, L is the third. Half a gourmet's guide or scene of Jose's protest.

Betty1 Aug 2nd, 2003 02:55 PM

Oh, forgot to ask Clifton. What's Iruna's connection to a rocket?

sicula Aug 2nd, 2003 03:01 PM

LVSue you are the winner. Yes. Montelepre is situated smack dab in the heart of mafia territory. Turridu, formally known as Salvatore Guiliano (1922-1950), remains to this day an immortal figure of grand proportions, venerated as a modern day benefactor of the poor and voiceless, the saint of betrayal and counter-betrayal. Turridu's reputation still resonates today in an epic sort of way. If you've ever been to the giftshop situated next to Doric ruins of Segesta, you would have noticed all the memorablia on sale regarding his legendary escapades.

BrimhamRocks Aug 2nd, 2003 03:06 PM

Betty1:

The first rocket is fired to warn the runners that the bulls are ready.

The second rocket is fired and the bulls are released into the streets.

LVSue Aug 2nd, 2003 03:08 PM

Yes, Betty1, pretty easy. Millau!

dln Aug 2nd, 2003 03:15 PM

Dear husband, who has spent the last 15 minutes on every search engine available, could only mutter (upon the solving of this new clue), "...they're losing us..." We need clues about all the clues' answers; keep them coming!

BrimhamRocks Aug 2nd, 2003 03:20 PM

LOL dln.....you tell that hubby of yours this is GOOD for him! (Hey, it's been good for MY little gray cells, too. I'm learning a lot!)
