Need Help with Gnocchi

We are leaving for Rome on two weeks and still don't have dinner reservations for the best gnocchi restaurant in Rome. Can anyone please help?

Thursday is gnocchi day in Rome, just in case you didn't know. On other days, it can be hard to find gnocchi. I love gnocchi.

is that a serious reply about thursday being gnocchi day?? if so, what a great tip! if not, what a great idea!

we had wonderful gnocchi and trophe pasta at caffe maccheroni. (i know.. unappealing name if you're american...) it is on a small street sort of behind the pantheon. it was the best pasta we had in rome... and a tiny bit off the beaten path, while in the center of everything.

kawh,

Yes, Thursday is gnocchi day in Rome. And I am a sucker for good gnocchi. But the best I had was not in Rome, but in Florence.

And by the way, gnocchi is not a pasta, it is actually small potato dumplings.

If you are in Chicago, or when you visit in the future, Caffe Spiaggia does a very very good job at this.

The closest to the real thing that I have found here in the US.

Gnocchi in Rome is not usually made from potatoes but from semolina. Almost every restaurant will have it on Thursday.

We'll be in Florence on a Thursday. Is this the day to eat gnocchi there?
We love gnocchi but don't arrive in Rome until Saturday and leave Wednesday!

Gnocchi is my favorite and I tried it at many different restaurants while we were in italy in May. It was offered on most menus most days, not just Thursday.

My absolute favorite was at a restaurant in Orvieto (Dell' Orso) but a very close second was at da Armando al Pantheon in Rome. I like it served half and half (one half cream sauce the other tomato) and Armando's was fabulous.

I was intrigued with the Thread tile. How could anyone need help with gnocchi?

But then I had NO IDEA there were days for eating it, or that it could be made from semolina.

I'm so glad I came here today.
