need help picking two towns: one as a base from which to explore Dingle Peninsula, one to explore the Burren/Cliffs of Moher....also need a rec for a dublin airport hotel.
i've settled (i think) my itinerary for my feb trip to dublin/sw/west. it entails a good deal of driving, so we want to pick a hotel or two in the west where we can settle for at least 2 nights each. <BR>either towns that are well located or attractive somehow, or specific hotels. <BR>here is my itinerary...as of now: <BR>Dublin - 2 days <BR>Saggart attending a wedding <BR>kilkenny <BR>killarney <BR>dingle area <BR>cliffs/burren <BR>galway <BR>back to dublin <BR>we have from Sunday midday to friday night to do the part of the trip from saggart to galway and then back to dublin. i figure we'll leave galway after an early dinner on our last night, and drive to dublin...stay at an airport hotel. <BR>thanks for any input! <BR>Edie

I'm just back from Ireland, with much the same itinerary, and I can recommend the town of Dingle for exploring the peninsula, and Ennis for visiting the Burren and the Cliffs. Specifically, we really liked the Temple Gate Hotel in Ennis. Make sure that if you want quiet rooms in hotels, you request rooms far far far from the bar/pub. (I learned this the hard way!) <BR>Have a wonderful trip!

It would also be possible to explore Dingle from Killarney or Tralee--The trip to/from Tralee goes over the Connor Pass and the views are great--however the road is a bit narrow, but is a fully paved road. We have stayed in the small town of Lahinch several times (great golf course--don't know about Feb. tho)--there are lots of B & Bs around the town; we had two dinners in the lounge bar of the hotel on the one main street of the town. In 1998 they had only one gas pump--hadn't changed from 1979--so we did have to get gas in Ennis. It is a short drive to the Cliffs of Moher from Lahinch. But figure that it will take you a lot longer to drive to wherever you are going--even on the motorways.

Stayed at the MARCHMONT in Lisdoonvarna in the heart of the burren. It was a nice B&B. Ate at the pub next door - ok but nothing great. Last March, the town itself was a real dump. <BR> <BR>Stay in Swords right next to the Dublin Airport. We stayed at the Holly Tree House. Also conider their parents B&B - Willowbrook house. Very convenient to the airport

thanks for all your help. before i print this out i wanted to ask one more thing. given our time frame (leaving Saggart, which is about 10-15 outside dublin, on sunday after lunch, and wanting to sleep in an airport hotel on friday nite, do you think we have a reasonable itinerary. are we trying to see too much, drive too far, etc? <BR>thanks <BR>Edie
