Transport from port to train station. Can anyone advise the best mode of travel from cruise terminal in Naples to the main train station - tram or bus?

It's only a couple of miles, so why bother wrestling with luggage etc, take a cab. It's worth it for a few euros.

Take a cab. The train station is not in the best area.

When you leave your ship, with your back towards the sea, the tram line is right in front of you going to the right. It cost us €1 to the station.

If you have luggage, take a cab. If not, the tram or the Alibus will take you to the train station. And while the train station isn't in "the best area", it's no better or worse than ones in any other given city in Europe... You'll be fine to go in and out of there from where the tram or bus drop you off.

It is a brisk walk (down the docks and take one turn at the sign post), take a taxi or tram if you need the speed. You are right it is not in the best area, it is in Naples.

However, do take sensible care within the station approaches, do not lose contact with you luggage, work out where the train is leaving from and move to the platform. If you have to wait there are passenger waiting rooms, go into them.

The usual drunks, druggies, dead dogs, trip touts etc tend to hang around at the front of the station area, however, once through the ticket buying concourse there is a second band of similar being moved on around the platforms.
