is Naples worthwhile having two days ? when your only in Italy for a total of 7 days? It goes like this spend 2 days in Rome train to Naples 2 days Sorrento 2 days drive to Amalfi coast 2 days then back to rome and fly to spain (my brother is doing it) to me your going to come back home needing a holiday thanks

Obviously Naples is worth 2 days. And more. And even more if you go to HErculanum or Pompeii.

Now if you are high season, forget the car when going to Amalfi coast - you cannot park. Take the train.

Ps: last time we went to Rome we spent 5 days and it was for us a bare minimum.

You say 7 days total, then say 2 days Rome, 2 days Naples, 2 days Sorrento, 2 days Amalfi coast, then back to Rome to fly to Spain.
Seven days requires at least 8 nights. Those 2 days in each place add up to 8 days, plus it will take 1/2 day to get back to Rome.
To get 2 days each in 4 different places, you need 3 nights in each place, making this trip 12 nights.

Layout the plan with exact dates and times and include travel time (hotel to hotel, not just train time) to see what you actually have.

What time does he arrive in Rome?
From an international flight?
Can he fly to Spain from Naples?
Is the whole trip from Spain or is Italy part of a longer trip?
When is the trip?

Naples is worth 2 days, but doesn't look as if he has 2 days there and it depends on the rest of the trip. I would not shortchange Rome for Naples.

You can spend a week in Naples and wish for more. Naples gets a bad rap from lots of unknowing people, however, it's one of the most interesting places on earth.

I spent 6 days in Naples and I didn't run out of things to do. Your brother is trying to do too much moving around in the time he has. He will barely get to one city and get oriented when it's time to move on.

If I only had a week to spend in Italy I would pick one, maybe two cities and take day trips from those. And forget driving, as mentioned above the train is the best way to get around.

Naples is different than the amalfitan coast, so it depends on what you want! Naples is a big city whit a lot of beautiful museums and other cultural activities (like visiting Pompei)

The amalfitan coast is famous for its nature,so you can have the most beautiful walks in the mountains, go to the sea or visit the typical towns along the coast.

Both are worth at least two days, but it depends on you what you want!

Rosanna talks about beauty. The most beautiful sight in the world is the view of the Bay of Naples, with Vesuvio in the background, as viewed from Via Petrarc. I went to Naples every year from 1987 to 2010, and stayed as long as I wanted (I mean my wife and I). I visited the sight from a bench on Via Petrarc very often during my visits in Naples. Believe me, every time I went there, it was like the first time! The panorama is so unbelievable that it's astounding. There is absolutely nothing that compares with it. Many photos have been taken of that view, but to see it in person is mind blowing. There are many other unique views and situations that can be experienced in Naples.

If you have 2 nights in Sorrento, plan to visit Naples on the way to Sorrento, and if you like it, go back the next day. It's very easy to do. You can just put your luggage in the Naples train station and go sightseeing, then pick up your luggage and go onward to Sorrento. The next day, if you really liked Naples, take the ferry boat from Sorrento to Naples, or if you don't like boats, take the train to Naples. But if you didn't like your first experience of Naples, you can go do something else near Sorrento.

To FrancesBrighton-The Via Petrarc has benches the length of the route. You can pick any one and just sit and enjoy. I spent hours just sitting, reminiscing and taking in all that beauty.

Thank you, Sassafrass. As I previously wrote, I spent a lot of time in Naples. When I decided to come home I (I'm sorry, I say I, but I have to include my wife, so it should be "we"), WE came home. The thing that made us come home, and I really mean this, is the love for our country. Otherwise, we would probably stay in Naples indefinitely. My wife was born in Brooklyn, but was raised in Naples. Her family still lives there. Three sisters and two brothers are native Neopolitans. They always called her "L'Americana". One of her sisters still lives in the apartment in which my wife was raised. When her parents passed away, they left the apartment to my wife and that sister, so technically, my wife owned half the apartment, really a condo. That's why we could stay as long as we did. If I had to, I could easily spend the rest of my days in Naples, or maybe, if necessary Paris. (Paris is another story). I have so many interesting stories regarding Naples, which I constantly recall in my mind.

That is criminal, removing the benches. Why was it done? Another place in which you can get a similar view is at the parking lot of San Antonio di Posillipo church. However, that area is more difficult to reach. I'm destroyed!
