MUSEUMS IN BERLIN AND SPEYER

Cannot help directly but when you go to Berlin do NOT miss the Pergamon museum in the former East Berlin. I was there in Communist area and the reconstructions of Greek temples INSIDE the museum took my breath away.

hello there. I just returned from Germany, and spent a fair amount of time in the former East Berlin. Anyway, near the Brandenburg Gates(not sure of the spelling) is a museum. On the East side of the gates, not the west, near the museum is a church called the Dome. The Dome is very easy to find and it is very popular church, we walked 2000 stairs to the top. I recommend you do it, its cheap and there is a spectacular view from the top. So when looking for the museum, its easier to find the church first. If I can help more e-mail me.

I have been to Berlin twice--1989 just before the Wall came down and then again in 1995. An interesting city...the Permagon museum (in the former East Berlin is a must!! Also, on our last trip we visited the Checkpoint Charlie Museum (I think this is the correct name). We found it very interesting as it depicts and displays many of the attempts to escape from the East. We enjoyed a good snack at this museum now. In '95 the former East Berlin was undergoing a vast amount of reconstruction...this may be past. Also the Kaiser Wilhim memorial in the former WEst Berlin is worth a visit. There is lots to do in Berlin...doing your research before you go is probably a good idea.

I agree with Alan and Sonia. The Pergamon Museum is a must! You may also be intersted in the restored Reichstag, near the lovely Brandenburg Gate.
