Moving to Germany?

Wow, I'm surprised, Jenny90wagner. The US Army is decreasing in size here in Germany, and with it, the need for the Edelweiss. They laid off a lot of staff last year (about half I think) and closed the dormitories; the resort staff now live in the empty rooms of the resort itself.
So, yes, I'm surprised that they are hiring.

swandav, I posted that in feb/12 when we were still very involved in Iraq. It was so different a year ago there. Still many people coming in and staying but not like years previously. We loved staying on the base side in the cabins and knew they were going to start using that for employees. What has the city done with the dorm building? They were turning it back over to GP we heard.

Hi flpab,
(My post was for "Jenny," not you, so I hope you didn't feel stalked, lol!)
Yes, the Army turned the buildings over to the German government. That site isn't close to me, so I don't know what they're doing with it currently.
I can say that the buildings are not converted in a hurry! There is an old Army hotel that has been empty for years (a decade maybe?) with no signs of any building or improvements. There was another former Army hotel in town that also sat empty for years -- it was torn down two years ago and is now a Rewe and shopping center.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Edelweiss camping grounds . . . I usually steer people to take an apartment in town rather than to be so far away and isolated on post. I think it's fine for R&R when soldiers and families are together, but for travellers, I think being in town is best.

We liked it the first couple of times because we did the Oktoberfest bus from the base and some of their tours. I love the biking tours they have. We like all the new things in Grainau. We tried getting a place in town last trip but all of the smaller places were booked and we aren't B&B people.
Thanks for the update on the old hospital/dorm. Those kids would tell us all the ghost stories from that place. They would see German soldiers in beds, in the halls and they hated the laundry room which they think must have been the morgue.
