DH and I are starting our vacation on Saturday, even though we don't leave until Monday. So, a Paris themed movie night it is...so please, give me your best recommendations for Parisian themed, set, etc. movies.
Thanks!

Hi Erika. I'm also having a Pairs themed movie weekend. I leave from Phoenix on Wednesday to spend 10 days in Paris. Can't wait! I bet you're as excited as I am!
Tonight I'm watching Camille Claudel, and possibly re-watching Before Sunset. Tomorrow I'm going to try to find French Kiss. Happy watching!

One of my favorite movies is "Charade" with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (look for a young James Coburn as well). This is a mystery/thiller of sorts. Clever and always entertaining -even for those not accustomed to older films. Set in Paris, so it may fit the bill!
Its also out on DVD now. Enjoy your movie night.
Cheers,
Murphy

A friend just emailed me to see the Pink Panther. Steve Martin drives a smart car and even shows a street in the Marais.
Zazie in the Metro,
Loulou,
Police,
Paris belongs to us,
Chloe in the Afternoon,
Full moon in Paris,
The girl at the Monceau bakery,
Rendezvous in Paris,
Bed and Board,Love on the Run,
Stolen kisses, these last three are all part of a series of the character Antoine Doinel based on Truffauts childhood that started with 400 Blows.
Rififi,
Les Parents Terribles,
Bob, le Flaneur,
Le Samoutai(these two are exciting)
Boudu saved from drowning,(a horrible remake here with Bett Midler)

We are blessed with a small independent cinema here in Portland where we can see all sorts of good old and new French films.
The most recent ( and ones that I can remember) are:
Elevator to the Gallows ( Jeanne Moreau & Maurice Ronet)
5x2
Les Choiristes ( The Chorus)
Lila Says
Kings & Queens
The Beat that my Heart Skipped
and a film we saw in London but still remains at the top of my favorites list Ridicule!
Mimi has named most of my favorites

For those who don't have access to French films in their area, you can buy or rent at a place I have mentioned here through the last few years:
www.facets.org
I keep calling when I want to buy a film when the cost is too high waiting frte reduced price. It took me a year to get Celine and Julie go boating marked down from 80 to 29 and it may be lower down.

Beatchiock mentioning another favorite Ronin, made me remember:
"Frantic",
and "Diva", two more good ones.
I never saw "Passport to Paris"
starring the Olson twins but a friend's teen daughter loved it and couldn't wait to tell me about the Paris scenes and how she is hooked.

If you start to burn out on cinematic romance, check out:
Baxter (1991) In French with English subtitles I believe... "Beware of the dog that thinks"
As a fascist allegory, it's a bit dark but I thought it was very interesting.

I second the recommendations of Ronin and Before Sunset, though to understand the Before Sunset, you'll need to watch "Before Sunrise" first - which was shot in Vienna.
Also, Bourne Identity has a lot of good Paris scene.
