Motorhome Campsites for Amalfi Coast Visit
Hi,
This May we are hiring a camper/motorhome & touring around Italy.
I really need some help on the Amalfi coast area.
I have heard you should not drive along the amalfi coast especially in a camper.
Was thinking it would be a good idea to base ourselves somewhere like Sorrento & then just make day trips to Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Salerno, Capri etc, itit even thought it may be a good idea to leave the motorhome for a few days & just book a hotel so we stay near all we want to see & do so we don't have to make day trips.
Has anybody done this before in a camper or recommend any campsites?
Any help will be truly appreciated.
Thank you.

There is a camp resort near/in Sorrento. They do have places for camper vans. It has been a long time since I was there, but there used to be one within walking of the town center. Google camping resort, on via Capo. If you can't find it, i will look it up for you.
I would not drive a camper around on the AC. Easy to take ferries and a bus when you can't get the ferry.

Thank you Sassafrass. I did a Google search & Resort Campogaio camp up, I believe that is the one your are talking about. Thanks very much it looks like a good site to base ourselves at.

There's a campground near Pompeii.

I know this link says Napoli, but it's for the region. There are campgrounds listed for Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Massa Lubrense, Vice Equense which are all in the area you want.

You might also consider looking down near Salerno. You would have easy access to the Amalfi Coast via ferry. You could see Pompeii via train from Salerno, as well as Paestum if ancient Greek temples are of any interest.

You would have nicer beach selection south of Salerno (there are nice, flat beach areas south and just outside Paestum), but it might be too far from the Amalfi coast for you. Depends on how much of your time will be spent seeing the towns between Sorrento/Salerno.
