Montmartre without tourists

I have read so many complaints about how Montmartre is overloaded with tourists and has become an unbearable place for a lot of people to visit due to "bracelet guys," pickpockets and crowds pushing and shoving.

It really takes only a small effort to have Montmartre all to yourself -- just get up very early and enjoy it. Here is the video I made at 6am: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEG5RGeYEK0

And here is the full report about having Montmartre all to oneself. The first part dates from October 2011 but the second part dates from this morning: http://anyportinastorm.proboards.com...sunday-morning

Thank you kerouac, another beautiful photo essay.
I really need to convince my husband to go to Paris even for a week next month. Paris is calling.

Love this and your other photo reports. Maybe you could post a "How to ..." so others could do the same?

Montmartre was my least favorite place in Paris and I had expected it to be one of the best. What you showed in your beautiful photos was what I had HOPED to see. Maybe because it was the one day of incredible wind and absolute downpour we had in Paris we didn't take the time to pursue all the little alleyways I had thought we would see, but what you described "unbearable due to crowds pushing and shoving" etc was what we got. At least we avoided the bracelet people by coming in to Sacre Coeur from above. Actually, I did unexpectedly come across the sweet old cemetery there, so it made up for a lot. I just love historic cemeteries (and spent at least four hours in Pere Lachaise) and found the ones in Paris very different. The ceramic "souveniers" and pottery wreaths I hadn't seen anywhere else.

Hope we get a "re-do" of Montmartre some day. We are definitely not 6 in the morning people, though...sounds like you need to make that a priority.

Thanks for another of your lovely photo records. I just love them and keep coming back to them.

Nice video, thank you.

I tried to go to Any Port in a Storm, said my IP address is banned. Ouch. Any ideas?

Hmmm, that is a mystery. Did you do anything naughty over there in the past?

You can send me a PM at TA with your IP address and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks, interesting. We were in Montmartre for a wine festival in the fall. Lots of tourists, but it's what we were expecting. We like the vibe of the area and imagine it would be wonderful in its purest form. Agree that you should consider a "How To" series...!

K,

As far as I know, no naughty behavior. Problem with settings, now resolved. I enjoyed both the old and new photos.

Thanks.
