I am looking for a credit card that gives mileage points -- any suggestions? Thanks!

What country do you live in? In Canada I have a CIBC Aerogold VISA and get 1 point for everydollar I spend that I can then use for travel on Air Canada. You can try calling your favourite/perfered airline and asking them if they have any credit card deals/relationships with a major bank in your area/country.

Hi Ariel. You might be interested in this deal. In addition to my CIBC Aerogold card, I also just got a Diner's Club / Enroute card - it cost $65 CAD, but they also gave me 7000 Aeroplan miles. Seemed like a good deal to me! And for each of the first 10 purchases over $20 between now and the end of July, I'll get 500 more Aeroplan miles - total will be 12,000 miles. Enroute is used mostly at restaurants, but I'm finding a surprising number of restaurants in Toronto which accept it. So I guess between now and the end of July, my husband and I will be having a few meals out. Given that we often have lunch out on the weekend as well as the odd dinner out, it won't take long. Also can use it at major gas stations as well. <BR> <BR>I seem to get these offers for credit cards all the time - this one actually seemed like a good deal, even if I just keep it for the year.

I would suggest you get a card for an airline that serves your city or one that you can access easily. Our city is a USAIR hub so we have a Bank of America card. There are some cards that will allow you to choose the airline for the mileage--I think American Express is one. Citibank has American Airlines. Probably if you look at airline sites they will tell you banks that give their mileage points.

I agree that you should select a card that is affiliated with an airline that has a hub in your city, or at least an airline that has easy connections from your city. You will use it more, and earn miles faster. <BR> <BR>I have a United Airlines Mileage Plus account that is connected to my First USA Visa credit card. I get one mile for every dollar spent. My long distance phone carrier (MCI) also gives 5 miles for every dollar I spend on long distance calls. My supermarket also has a program that gives me 125 miles for every $250 dollars I spend there (if I pay with my United Mileage Plus credit card I get another mile for every dollar spent). United also gives bonus miles for buying tickets on the internet. <BR> <BR>I know this sounds like an ad for United, but I've earned 56,000 miles in less than one year! But my favorite airline is American because of the extra leg room in coach (I think they have a Citibank Visa card). <BR>

Check the fine print on any credit card you get that awards mileage. I use my credit card to pay business expenses and rack up a lot of miles. The American card from Visa that I use has no monthly limit or yearly limit for miles earned. The United card limits you to 10,000 per month and 60,000 per year. Anything over 10000 in one month and you still get only 10000. If you are a large charger like me, this needs to be considered.

I agree with Judy (Miles One-Capital One). I had a United card through First USA, but the interest was very high. Called them to see if the interest could be lowered (have been successful in this regard with other cards)and was told because of the air mileage it was the lowest interest rate they could offer. Capitol One much lower!

I am a big fan of American Express and the American Express Rewards Program. 1 point for each dollar spent, and the points can be transfered to a variety of airlines when needed. You are not resticted to only one airline..However I think with some of the other cards there is a bit of flexibility to use several airlines for point redemptions too.

The best airline card is the one that you will use the most - which is the one nearest you. In Philadelphia, it is USair - we have the platinum card whigh gives 1.2 miles per dollar. <BR> <BR>A good summary is in the Consumer Reports Travel Letter, Jan 2001.
