Milan Day Train to see the Alps, Perhaps Bernina Express

Jump to last reply

My girlfriend and I will be staying in Milan, Italy for 5 nights between Christmas and New Years and we're hoping to spend a day taking a scenic train to see mountains. I have seen some pictures of the Bernina Express but can't really figure the best way to get from Milan to Tirano, Italy where the Bernina Express route begins. The train trip does not need to be the Bernina Express, as I am sure there are many beautiful mountains in this area. We would like to leave early one morning from our the hotel in Milan sometime between Dec 29-31st and hop on a train with a small carry-on, and spend the day seeing mountains from the warmth of a train, returning to our hotel the same evening/night.

Does anyone have any suggestions how we could best accomplish this?
