Two girls aged 50 having a night out in the centre of Manchester after a days shopping are looking for a relaxing wine/cocktail bar which will not be noisy on a Friday night , followed by a good , not too expensive Tapas/Italian restaurant with lots of atmosphere. Any suggestions please?

For cocktails- try the Radisson Edwardian Hotel in the former Free Trade Hall in Peter Street. Comfortable seating (to rest after all that retail therapy) & great cocktails. To combine food AND cocktails you could try CROMA at 1 Clarence St off Albert Square. But my recommendation for good Italian is Leonis Latin Cellar in Bow Lane off Cross St near Albert Square. The entrance is not very inviting but, once inside, you'll have an excellent meal with friendly efficient service.
Have fun!!

REVIEW of Leonis Latin Cellar dated 2 Nov 06
My fiancé (from Texas) and I (born and bred Mancunian) had late lunch here today (Thursday 2nd November 2006). The starters were light refreshing and well presented - he had calamari and I had avocado and prawns. Main course was swordfish for me - cooked to perfection with beautifully cooked new potatoes and spinach Rob had a Clazone - which for pure size would have daunted me, again beautifully cooked and presented. We chose a Le Huerta wine from Chile which complimented the meal. Afters was a fruits with ice cream - large enough to share after the magnificent main meal. Service was prompt, and attentive with the owner making sure that as new patrons we were fully satisfied.
